Found this site friday night when I was doing some research on insurance companies and after spending 20 minutes browsing the forums I knew this was a great community.

I had been looking to buy a car for a couple of weeks and one day while having diner one night my mom (jokingly??) suggested I get a scooter (those $2000 dollar ones which require no license). A week later I had my M1 and the week after that I had a brand new 2011 CBR 250 sitting in my garage. I have never had an interest in riding except for when I was a kid playing with those toy motorcycles lol.

I am 20 yrs old, got my bike in June of last year and now have 1000km of riding experience.

Welcome!

Nice bike! I didn't have much of an interest in riding till a few years back too. Now I can't stop thinking about it :agave:

Hello !!

Hey everybody,

I've been a member of this forum for quite some time now just browsing around. I saw that there's a wealth of info here and from very experienced riders.

I got my M1 and M2 in 2009. I've never rid since then. Im going to get into it this season though as I have to get my M before it runs out. The other day I was browsing around for bikes and spotted a Ninja 500r for sale. Next thing I knew, it was my garage. I got it last week. Added some fuel stabilizer to the gas tank and am letting it sit for now. I haven't even started it yet while it's been with me.

Hopefully if the weather climbs back up into the positives, I'll start it up and go around the block a few times. Im planning to take the M2 exit course with learning curves to kinda get me back up to speed with all the safety rules and tricks and to clear the M test.

Hey just want to let you know I was gonna take M2 exit course to get my full M, but at the end I thought it was too expensive its like $4xx. So without knowing how tough the MTO M2 exit course was like, I took it and passed with ease. I did not have to do 8-figure, sharp turns, u-turn, slow maneuvers. It was much easier. I paid $75 and was a sure-pass. I have their marking sheet, it's a joke once you look at it. The safety course also won't help you at all to lower insurance premium, it's basically useless because they taught you all the safety rules, tricks and basics you need to know in M1 exit. Everyone goes to M2 exit for the license, the tough stuffs they teach you in my opinion rarely comes into play and not necessary to ride in Toronto roads.

Thanks for the reply. I see what you mean because i've also taken the M1 exit course and learned alot of good stuff but I don't remember most of it. I thought it'd be good too to kind of brush up on those safety techniques as well. I know it won't affect my insurance at all. Also, I have a good record and my bike's a Ninja 500r so i was quoted a very cheap rate as well off the bat. Something like $1200 for the year. I saw at learning curve.ca, they were charging $299 for the course and seems like a good deal compared to what the other guys are offering.

But i'll have to mull over it a bit more before I decide whether or not to take the course. I also saw on youtube where a guy mounted a camera onto his bike prior to taking the M2 exit test at the Brampton drive test center. It looked very straight forward and he wasn't asked for any of the U-turn stuff or figure 8 kind of stuff.

"why in the world did I buy a bike?" that was probably the first thing I thought after getting it.. and now I cant get enough, I'm addicted to riding..

how much is your insurance now if you don't mind sharing

Me being a noob I bought the bike and then I starting looking for insurance. Out of the 15 or so insurance companies I called only TD would insure me.. It was $2300 for 8 months (ending next month).

A couple of weeks ago I checked my online account at the TD website to see my renewal rate and to my surprise it was $4200 (basic coverage - only liability). Then last week I called a Jevco broker and got a quote of $1800 for a year, same basic coverage. I have since canceled the renewal with TD and now I am just waiting till june to go with Jevco (one year license requirement)
