Hey All....

I`m new to this Forum. I ride a K8 GSXR-750 and have owned about 5 of them in my riding career since 1986. I am replacing both front and rear sprockets and chain tomorrow and now wonder if I should just leave the front alone. I planned on going down 1 tooth to 16 on the front and up two on the rear to 47. This is NOT a 520 conversion! I am sticking with the stock chain pitch for strength and durability. The chain is a D.I.D. XVring, gold with black rollers. The sprockets are both JT, steel alloy(525). I have read some problems however. As you may know, the stock sprockets come from the factory with a rubber dampener epoxied to the countershaft sprocket which helps eliminate noise and harmonics. The JT does not have this rubber. Therefore some people experience different sounding vibe noises from the front sprocket area. I don't want that at all !! If I simply replace the rear sprocket and chain will that be enough of an increase in bottom end for quick starts and wheelies etc. I plan on some track days and want top performance. Or should I rish it and change em both ??? Any and all input is appreciated guys and gals, thanks a lot !!

Hey welcome. May you would want to redirect your question to the technical threads. Might have a better chance of someone seeing it there that can answer your questions.

Welcome!

For the sprockets id change them both. As for the -1/+2 it will make your bike feel a lot more alive. Only down side is the decrased top speed and higher revs when cruising leading to crappier fuel mileage, bu then again i dont see that as a big problem for most sport bike rides.

Welcome!

All I can say is that the -1/+2 gearing change is the best mod I have ever done to my bike.
If you are putting a new chain and a new rear sprocket, you should really change the front sprocket as well.
You can leave the front sprocket at 17T and just change the rear to a +3 which will give the same effect as the (-1+2) more or less. Try it out and if you don't like it, you can just change the rear sprocket back to 45T.

As far as noise, I haven't heard anything out of the ordinary when I did my 520/gearing change.

welcome.

ahh it isn't the same dude, not even close, -1 in the front is close to +3 in the back

-1 +3 is a lot of top speed lost on that Bike, not sure what kind of riding you do but I would stick with Max +3 in the back alone, me I would do +2 in the back

My mistake, you are absolutely right.
I was told that -1 in the front is equivalent to +3 in the back, I must have been confused when I made that post.

-1/+2 has worked out great for me, I don't really care about losing some top speed, I never get there anyways.
I went -1/+2 on the track bike as well, but Dave is trying to talk me into having an array of sprockets/gearing.
I probably will, I take everything Dave says seriously. lol (seriously)
