Here comes a slow guy from Ottawa Ontario (Canada)

Hey guys/gals

So I figured I should introduce myself. I just graduated and became an engineer and decided to fulfill my wish that I've had since I was 16. I bought a black ninja 250r at the beginning of June

So I'm located in Ottawa. Unfortunately due to our graduated licensing system it takes a while to get up and running so I haven't had a chance to actually ride it but by the end of July I should be on the road. I did the MSF course which was so informative and fun and I bought all the protective gear already so its just a waiting game now.

Other things about me, I'm a guy, under 25. I have been doing long distance bicycling for a long time and so I think I will enjoy being on a motorcycle. I obviously have a desire to go fast on two wheels, so I decided to do myself a favor. Hence the purchase of a 250r rather than a 600SS. I have taken it out for a spin on the back roads and yes the very stable and linear acceleration isn't mind boggling but it is still a ton of fun. The corners should be awesome fun once I actually have the skills (read:balls) to go fast around them.

Edit:
For reference I have an M2 license and first time riding and I'm paying $1400/year for liability and comprehensive (no collision). The insurance and M2 actually kick in at the end of this this month when my 60 days of M1 are up

If you have any other questions let me know.

ciao

Welcome. I grew up near Ottawa and just drove my bike through town a couple of weeks ago. I didn't realize it was like a separate country there when it comes to getting on the road. If you have your M2, your bike and your insurance, what is preventing you from getting on the road right now?

Be safe!

My M2 and Insurance kicks in at the end of the month when my 60 days of M1 are over. I mentioned that I had it already to keep it simple. I suppose I made it more complicated :S

Ahh so, I understand. You earned it, but you don't yet got it :D. Which insurance company are you with? Really makes no sense to not insure you until M2 since you won't be (or shouldn't be?) gaining any experience while you are waiting.

I called up about 5-7 different companies and went with aviva/OIS for $1400. My insurance on M1 would be ~$3300 so I decided to wait 60 days.

Welcome!!

Scope out some nice routes in Ottawa, will ya? My brother just got a 250 as well. Hopefully he'll let me borrow it when I visit next ;)

Enjoy the rest of the summer, with any luck you will be riding right into November like last year

Check out the three digit roads that begin with 5

Cell coverage can be a little spotty on some of them though
