Helmet Fitment Issues

So ive been going around and trying on helmets. I guess my head is shaped weird because Ive tried on, Shoei,Icon,HJC,Hysoumi? and Bell helmets in Small or XS. Issue is Im able to move them up and down. Ive been told by the bike store people that means its to big. Side to side is perfect, cheek pads fit etc but its just the up and down movement.
Apparently Shoei's fit very well on most people but I guess Im an exception.
Can i just buy a xs helmet and tighten the chin strap to help with the up and down movement ?
Thoughts ?

Have you tried Arai? Simon? Suomi? AGV?

The up and down motion, more specifically, is to test if the helmet will "roll' off your head in the case of a get-off/crash. It should be snug enough that it would be difficult to chew gum, but still enough room that it feels comfortable. Grab a helmet, wear it around the store for 15-20 mins (make vroom vroom noises to pass the time) and see where the pressure spots are and what feels good.

The higher end helmets have removable liners and pads that come in various sizes and can be adjusted to fit your head (i.e. the Corsair Arai's have 8 different kinds of cheek pads alone, Shoe X12 as well, etc)

I did try different models of those brands while keeping in my budget. The Arai's were to pricey. I cant recall trying any AGV but did try Suomi and Scorpion as well

You can always modify the removable inner padding by adding to it.
That, or just don't crash.

Like the fit of pants or shoes, it's not an exact science. However, one thing that might help, other than already mentioned Arai brand, is that manufacturers tend to make 2 or 3 shell sizes and then put padding of different thickness in there. A shell smaller but thinner padding might be better than a shell larger with a lot more padding etc. Go by fit only, the letters are so inconsistent I think.

It is normal to be different sizes with different brands. Find what fits you best, then find what price works best for you.

Go to Royal Distributing - they have hundreds of helmets on the wall, might take awhile, but I'm sure you will find one that fits :)
