Hello, yet another newbie here

Just found this forum after a quick Google search, to be precise I was googling to see if anyone had made a functional Darth Vader motorcycle helmet because the thought of wearing that while riding on my way to work would be hilarious.

Anyway I'm currently reading my way through motorcycle handbook to prepare for my written exam, hopefully next week. After that a friend suggested I go to learning curves for lessons so I was pleasantly surprised to see they were listed in one of the guide here.

Hoping to find a nice Kawasaki 250 under $2000 at least until I've got my full M license, haven't had much luck so far though.

Only question I have so far is how do the 250's fare when doing long distances, I have family in Montreal that I'd like to be able to visit once in a while.

Pleasure to meet you all and I hope I won't bug you lot too much.

Welcome. The only way to get a 250 under $2k is to get a pre-gen one (2007 and older, i.e. before the 2008 refresh). They are nice bikes and there is probably something out there in the early to mid 2000s that would be near your price range.

I'm pretty sure a ton of people have done long distances with those bikes without any issue (e.g. www.ninjette.org, etc.).

Koma: Yeah I kinda figured the newer models were more expensive but some of the searches I've done have produced 10-15 year old 250's at $3000-$4000 so far so still looking.

bboySushi: glad to hear it.

Reading through the book one thing I'm not 100% clear on is is the M2 license enough to drive on the 401 and 20 to Montreal?

Welcome to the forum. You'll have no issues with a 250 as your first bike. Seeing that your funds are limited be sure to really check any bike out for mechanical issues before purchase, to avoid any problems down the road.

Only restriction on the M2 from the M is no alcohol. You can can go on any road you want any time once you have your M2.

Thanks for the clarification

Considering I only drink before bed that shouldn't be a problem then.

One less worry, now all I have to worry about is;
  • passing the exam
  • paying for and taking the course
  • Finding a good baby that won't be too expensive
  • buying gear
  • Crazy drivers
  • finding myself a Darth Vader helmet
:lmao:

Welcome!!

That's true, but don't forget those are just asking prices. Lots of people will sell for less.
