I have a question about my ninja250 headlights. Only one of them is on normally unless I use the high beam. I know that some have discussed about changing that so both stay on normally. Would this mod effect the warranty on a new bike?

cheers

It shouldn't, but the way dealerships are they'll probably blame your modification if something goes wrong.
My advice, don't touch it till your warranty is done.

If you do end up re-wiring the headlights make sure that aim the old high beam correctly. Otherwise you'll just be riding around town blinding people.

Switching both to H4 (low/high single bulb) could draw too much power (double what is currently used when low beams are on, probably similar power draw when highs are on (assuming low stays on with high now). That could get you into a host of warranty denials. Are you planning on having both reflectors do low and high? Are the reflectors different shapes (internally)? If they are it is quite likely that the high beam reflector could never be properly aimed for nighttime low beam operation. You are opening up a pandoras box here which is quite likely possible to resolve, but is it worth the effort?

Personally I would leave it alone.

The difference between low beam and high beam on ALL vehicles that have a separate bulb for low and high beam, is in the reflectors, not in the bulb.

If you find a way to fit a dual-beam bulb into a reflector that was meant for a single beam (either high or low), the beam pattern will not be correct for either high or low beam, and no amount of re-aiming can fix this situation properly.

The bulb and the reflectors are designed to work together, and if you put in something else, it will not work correctly. You might get it to function, but the beam patterns will not be correct.

Leave well enough alone.

thanks everyone!! great info. I'll leave it alone. My bike is a 2012 so I have a 4yr on it so it is not worth the headache at all!!

cheers!!

You could install dual projectors in your ninja 250 headlights. I've done it before, AMAZING lighting upgrade for your bike, and you'll get dual low beams and dual high beams, all with flawless cutoff and beam pattern :) If you want to do it yourself you can buy a kit form this guy and install it, or ship him your headlights and he'll do it for ya, or purchase an entire new headlight assembly from him with pre-installed projectors (so you could just swap it back to your factory headlight if it needed any warranty service): http://bkmoto.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=55

There are much cheaper kits available from china as well.
