Heading to TMP? Beware of "project dragstrip"

Whole lotta speculation in that article...mostly drag race competitors?

This is a pretty commonly known thing I thought.
I went to a dirt short track event last Saturday night and kept the speeds down simply because I knew it could be a heat score.

The Ministry of Environment presence is interesting, too. No doubt that's aimed at drag-race patrons ... hot-rodders of late model vehicles are well known for taking out the catalytic converter, or using cold-air-intakes without a connection for the crankcase vent.

They were doing this six years ago when I was still street racing and no doubt long before that. Camping outside a race track for easy pickings on safety and emissions violations and speeders when the limits get reduced.

I thought they were there to mind the bogs... :-)

we used to send a car down koler road a heAD of us to check. mto would set up and that was 10 years ago

Since its inception, the "Take it to the Track" $$$afety campaign has proven to be very lucrative for our cash-strapped province

No doubt. The side effect of the $$$afety campaign was that we were less inclined to take it to the track. Just another example of promoting the stereotype that police enforcement is more about making money than promoting safety.

Anyone else notice the sidebar? 1 found/wandering elderly person?!

I think the problem is what is being taken to the track via public roads. You can build a fast street car for occasional track days and still meet the regulations.

The problem is a lot of the weekend warrior types build a "race" car out of a POS on the cheap and cut corners. Cut springs, no cats, bypassed emissions, race harnesses replacing proper seat belts, dangerous relocation of battery/fuel cell/Nitrous etc. Basically riced out cars that are built poorly by younger wannabe's that still drive like ******** in public are the target of the safety blitz.

You can't deny there are a lot of ****** Civics (or whatever) out there that shouldn't be on the road.

We build track bikes for track days or racing and we trailer them because they can't be on the road. The people targeted are driving their "track" cars, not towing them.

I know it's cool to cry ca$h grab every time someone breaks a rule but how else should it be corrected? Take your license for every offense? There aren't enough jars on the planet to hold the tears that would come from that..... so really I don't see any problem on the police end of ensuring vehicles are road worthy.

If your car is legal you have nothing to worry about. If you want to drive you have to maintain your vehicle properly. Grown up world. If you don't have the money to build a dedicated track car then too ****ing bad for you. I don't have enough money to buy a jet. I'm not all waaaaaaaaaa about it on the internet.

Sorry if that had too much turbodish.
