HD Antenna OTA TV

some friends have good results with it. I'll give it a go after Aug 31 if I find I want to watch TV.....haven't turned mine on for a long time. I just watch stuff online. Haven't had cable or sat for almost 15 years.

Hmmmm...just wondering has anyone those this before?

I'm probably going to give this a try and see what I can get...

Getting sick of Rogers bills :P

Got a DB8 (Canada station) and a small Yagi Antenna (US station) on my chimney. The DB8 is going through a CM7777 amp and both antennas plugs into a powered 3X4 matrix switch.

Here's a "heat map" of the towers you can get. Type in your address and see if you can "see" the tower you want.

or how about getting over your tv addiction and going outside

Do you know how stupid you sound? Typing this while you're in front of a computer screen.

With the new laws for analogue signals being dropped with these ota systems still work?

They'll work just fine, maybe even better due to less interference from analogue signal and also more transmit power dedicated to digital. I'd put up an antenna here if I didn't hate the commercials.

It will work better. After the digital transition they will shut down the analog signals. OTA HD is digital.

The commercials you see are misleading. They are hinting that after Aug 31st you will need Satellite or Cable.

Most TV that says "HDTV" (not HDTV ready) have a built in ATSC tuner which is all you need to pick up HighDef OTA channel.

I was using OTA HD before I caved and got Rogers HD. I was watching all of the Toronto channels with a coat hanger. You'll need one of those bigger antennas to get the buffalo channels.

As mentioned, old antennas that were used to pick up analogue signals will still work. You just need a digital tuner. Flatscreens/HDTVs for the last say 3 years (probably more) all have digital tuners.

If you watch a lot of network tv, then OTA HD might be enough. But if you're like me and like specialty channel programming (sports, documentaries, etc), you might not be satisfied.

Thanks Splash,

I will check out...just moved into the new house so might as well give this a try... (New 51" 3D TV as well :))

Probably do a bit more reading and order the stuff...very soon :)

I miss Dave and Charlie.

Those were the days.

Give it a shot. I get 5-6 hd channels in markham with just regular bunny ears. Quality is amazing and blows Rogers out of water only catch is you have to watch a lot Canadian content. But Hockey Night Canada in Hd is amazing and must be seen.

I refuse to pay for junk programming so I bought a cheap antenna from Sayal, pointed it at Buffalo and get a bunch of channels. The odd time the weather sets it off but TV is a waste of time anyway. You don't get the specialty channels if you're into racing etc.

Your TV has to be HD or you buy a converter. With the converter you get the program but not in HD. HD does spoil you.
