The intensely hated, or loved GSX1300R debuted in 1999.
In Dec 2019, 20yrs later, production will come to an end.
I hope everyone who rides, gets some seat time on one.
RIP.

That's sad. This bike has such a presence, it always fascinates me. One of the only bikes that I look at twice if I see her on the road.

RIP

The other is my Grom.

Boom!

The Hayabusa is a modern icon. I've had some fast cars, there's always someone that wants to 'go' when you stop along side them. When the pull up beside your Hayabusa, they just show respect with a nod. First you chuckle, then remind them to nod everytime.

One moment comes to mind. I was at a red light one day, and what was left of a Plymouth Reliant (likely 4cyl) pulls up beside me (09 busa). There were more teenagers in it than seatbelts. They're all excited, (nice kids) yelling the usual bs.......the driver was laughing while challenging me to race. I said, ok, let's go on the green.
Light turns green. He gives er. I go just fast enough, just to stay clear of the blue smoke gushing out from his exhaust, but let him / them beat me. Next red light.....I gave them kudos for having such an awesome, fast car. (I don't think we reached 55kph....lol)

Seems I recall that with early VW Beetles ....we floored at the light in a shoot out and hadn't hit the speed limit before the next light

There are lots of people who should ride a bus. ;)

The busa is dated in every way imaginable. That is why I dont own one anymore. The 1999 had some very trick parts and was as far from stock as possible. Even so, the 14r performs better in every way imaginable. But, that 99 with those trick parts looked amazing in copper.

I wanted TC, abs more ccs, better handling and torque

I will (eventually) get an H2 variant

I thought this was going to be @Gary updating this thread saying he had ordered a replacement for the FJR. I guess that post will be coming in a month.

My ass enjoyed about 40K Hayabusa seat time, 100kmh at a time.

Things I remember:
  • 140 in first gear
  • Being afraid to look at the speedo
  • Wondering if I would feel anything if something goes wrong
  • Pirates at Timmies slithering over for a peek, then offering a nod of approval
  • Irritating the squids at the office by parking beside their 600s
  • The sound of MotoGP tips on a 1300 I4
I miss the bike, bit I'm glad it's in the hands of someone that could enjoy it as much as I did.

This video gives a glimpse of the new model. Unfortunately it doesn't show much. I guess we'll have to wait until next month

Artists Impression... ???

It will be interesting to see what they do now that some of their competition has been selling horsepower monsters for years. Factory turbo busa?
