Any members here part of a gun club? I recently got a Beretta 92fs and am having trouble finding a nearby gun club (Toronto) to commute to. ONly have a bike so winter commute is almost impossible.

Help.. suggestions>

silverdale 240 a year, or target 700 a year are pretty much only viable options around the gta

I joined Sliverdale, very welcoming club. Their requirements for full membership is much quicker than the smaller clubs.

Only issue is getting there

Toronto, ON M4W 3R1 to 4948 Conc 4 Rd. St. Anns,, ON L0R 1Y0 appears to be outside our current coverage area

I'm confused ... coverage area for what?

Public transport... no car.

I think you're going to have a tough time finding reasonable public transit to most gun clubs. There's one at Lakeshore and Dixie but it's only open on Saturdays.

How much is a zip car rental? Depending on how often you want to shoot that might be a good option. Or find a friend with wheels how belongs to a club.

Prob going to have to split with a friend. Wish i was in america

I wonder what is the policy re: transportation of guns using public transport. I assume the gun here in question is a handgun. They say you should drive directly to a range with no stops. This is probably to prevent u from interacting with the public while carrying a gun.
Public transit=numerous public interaction

I'm not sure of the legality of transporting a restricted firearm using public transit. It's something I would research prior to entertaining the idea. A LTALL stipulates where the firearm can travel to and from and I don't remember any specific rules around the mode of transportation in any of the regulations just how the firearm must be transported.

I called the rcmp and asked about transporting a handgun on a bike and was told that i needed to put it in a trunk of the bike, or saddle bags.
I asked if i can put it in a locked case and throw it in a backpack and was told no.

With that being said i doubt you'd be able to do it on a bus, where exactly is the trunk? lol

retarded laws but thats how it is in canada, find a friend to drive with or stick to paintball guns

I have ridden to silverdale while transporting hand guns in a backpack. No law saying it's illegal that I can find. The ltatt only says to travel in the most reasonably direct route. You can still stop for gas and food.

Just double lock your hand guns as per the law and carry them in inconspicuous bag on the bus.

Agreed, it's an auth to transport. Locked glovebox of a car is ok, out of sight in a car without a trunk is ok or in a trunk is ok but not in a backpack on a bike makes no sense. I think the issue around public transit would be reasonably direct route, public transit isn't reasonably direct to anywhere. Double locked is double locked.

The CFO for Ontario is in court for misinterpreting the laws he's required to enforce, I don't expect any change to come of it. We have to play by his rules.

Disregard..... I found the law on it but it's Quebec law.

Reads like this.....

Possession of a firearm is prohibited on certain premises of designated institutions, on school buses and on public transit, except transportation by taxi. However, if you are the holder of a permit authorizing the possession of a firearm and you exercise an activity permitted by law, an exemption permits you to travel by:

  • motor coach
  • shuttle
  • train
  • aircraft
  • ferry
This exemption applies if you do not have any other choices but to use these methods of public transportation given your personal situation or the activity that you wish to participate in. An exemption also allows you to use chartered transport when this method of transport is retained exclusively by a group in order to exercise an activity permitted by law, such as hunting or trapping.

Sometimes I wonder if the same writer who wrote the the Bible wrote the Canadian gun laws. In fine print they should say "subject to interpretation"

It is perfectly legal as per federal regs to transport via public transport. The problem is most public trasportation systems also have their own bylaws. This is the TTC's. Their interpretation of authorized means by them.

3.33 No person, unless authorized, shall enter or remain on any TTC property that is in possession of:

(a) a firearm, air gun, air rifle, pellet gun, pellet rifle, gas
charged gun, gas charged rifle, imitation firearm, an offensive weapon
or a prohibited weapon; or

(b) explosives, pyrotechnical material, flammable material,
offensive or toxic material, or any other dangerous thing, object or
material.

There is also an in door range in Hamilton. About 30 mins closer than Silverdale. It is called Wentworth Shooting sport club.
