Looks like a good bike, but typical suzuki corner cutting fashion, oem tires are bad, brakes are wooden, lacks bottom end grunt.

One thing my 2018 GSX-S1000 had was bottom end grunt and I believe the engine is still the same old K5 ... maybe something in the tuning has changed or we'd have different perceptions of "bottom end grunt".

Those are the impressions of neeves, who I trust

I've never ridden it, but in general I have a heavy bias against i4's after briefly owning an (fz6)
I once rode a z900 which had torque but was also lacking in character department.

I need more test rides is what I need to change my mind.

I'd give the Yamaha CP4 a try but yeah, like you, I'm not enamored with I4's either.

To be fair; You owned the worst of the possible inline 4s. Even the race version is gutless.

I owned both a K6 and K9 GSXR1000. The K6 is identical to the K5 and it had good bottom end power in stock trim.
The K9 in stock trim had less bottom end but more than made up for it on the top end and was much more exciting. A full exhaust and a proper tune and it had just as much bottom end as the K5/6 and still killed it on the top end (both bikes had exhausts/tunes.

I'll bet the loss in bottom end power on the GX is not a sacrifice for power elsewhere but because of the stricter emission laws since your 2018 was made. Lean bottom end, snatchy throttle........ give it a proper tune and I'll bet it improves it a ton.
