I got a prompt reply from Rebecca, she has confirmed my eligibility and ordered the part.

I did ask if I would be able to just get the part shipped to me and save them the labour but it must be a liability issue, she said it had to be installed by their licensed technician. I am more afraid of my bike sitting there for weeks and then having to tow it home or ride through the snow.

its not the liability issue, its that Suzuki pays for the part and labor. dealers lock in your recall and its guaranteed money for them. they may be getting 2hrs labor to change the master cyl and bleed the brakes and they can probably do it in 30 min.

I know how you feel, I'm gonna do this at the beginning of next season so no towing is involved....maybe I'll have to use my Horny Toads if there's rain or ice lol

That's a great idea until you realize that everyone else is probably going to do the same thing and now you've got no bike for a month +

Beginning of the season for me is when it's 0-5 degrees for a week straight without snow lol

I'm only gonna get this done if they can get it in and out the same day, otherwise I'd rather pay to get a Braking master instead.

Wouldn't it just make more sense to book an appointment for next season and ride the bike starting next season until the day you have to go in and get the recall done? Not like the brakes are going to fail in a month loll ?

Oh..that's a good point but I was thinking sometime in March. There's still a risk for snow and **** ; ;

I'm still riding right now, I just see this as a free brake fluid flush which I don't need yet lol

It's nothing to do with this at all. In fact I had a discussion with Suzuki about this issue and we are under strict instructions that we MUST see the bike in order to do the recall.

I wish we got 2 hours labour, but we do not. Recalls and warranty work only pay flat rate which is dictated by Suzuki what that time line is. Trust me, it never works out in the shops favor. I am sure you all may think otherwise but I figured I would comment on that specifically. I did look into this for everyone just to make sure there wasn't another way to accommodate the track bike owners.

The recall just came out, there isn't a time limit on it. Just get your information into your dealer and wait for them to call you when the part arrives. We can get the recall kit without seeing the bike but we can not hand it over the counter to you.

If you flat out know you won't be dragging it in through the snow, don't start the process. Just do it about a month ahead so in case there is some massive back orders you will have 2 to 6 weeks for the part to arrive. The submissions are tied to VIN's so where ever you start the claim you must complete it.

I'll pass.....all the more reason to order the Brembo 19X18 I was already considering.

my mistake.
for my car i had a brake line recall and the dealer (which i am related to people that work there) said they would rather do the work because they got 2 hrs per brake line (only fronts under recall).
i had just changed my brake lines the summer before because the fitting rusted out and blew off (which is what the recall is about) and it only took me 15 min per line plus bleeding them... so call it 1 hr tops. i guess this was a rare case where the dealer gets more labor pay from the brand than it actually took to do the job.

i only wanted to do it myself because i was about to do a brake job and swap out sway bars so i would have already had the wheels off and up in the air...so i didnt want to have my car tied up at a dealership for another day.
bottom line though, you arent paying anything so just let the shop do it.

ive heard a lot of people saying this, but you should also make sure that the brembo replaces everything that is affected by the recall (it most likely does).

maybe just sell the bike and get a CBR :evil5:

I had this done, took 2 hours after I dropped it off. Had to ride through the snow though, fingers froze off. My heated grips just came in the mail a few days too late lol.
At this time of year, there is NO line up for people doing this recall...if you're still out riding it's the best time to get it done.

If you have been changing the brake fluid every year or two is this really a necessary replacement? I got a letter in the mail and was led to believe it wasn't Imperative if I have been changing the brake fluid at appropriate intervals. As a track rider I change it every season.

Opinions?

You know nothing about main dealer auto shops obviously. Dealers hate recalls. Mechanics hate recalls. And service people hate recalls. It often pays worse than regular work. Sturgess has it about right.
