- just want to clarify, this is not a katana, etc. Those models appear separately in the tool. It is specifically a GSX-R 750W


I was looking at insurance rates on some gsxr-750’s and came across a few gsxr-750 models on the insurance quote page (has a drop down list for each year and shows all the models from that manufacturer for that year). Under Suzuki from around the early/mid 90’s to ‘98 there was the GSXR-750: insurance was expensive; the GSXR-750R: insurance was expensive; and finally there was the GSXR-750W: insurance was really cheap. So I immediately sought out this this W model, however google just pulls up the GSXR-750 (ie. there appears to be no specific 750W model). The wiki does show a ‘98 GSXR-750W, but this just appears to be the first fuel injected model (but as noted on the insurance page the W exists in the years before ‘98). Does anyone know what this 750W model is?

I would think these are orphaned, redundant entries all for the same bike - only one of these is likely associated with the VIN range of GSX-R750s and it won't be the cheap one.

Best guess, the first generation of water cooled GSX-R750 showed up as GSX-R750W for a few years. Then in 1996, that gets dropped - but it appears again in 1998 because now W is the code that Suzuki used for that year.

Don't know about Suzuki but Yamaha and Kawasaki model codes have an unofficial last character that is either dependent on the model year (Yamaha) or the number of years that the specific model in question was built (i.e. a 1 indicates the first production model year of the model in question, 2 is the second, 3 is the third, etc.)

W probably just refers to a specific model year.
