Grand Bend vs Shannonville

Was going to go to Cayuga Sept 19, but that's cancelled now. Trying to decide between Grand Bend and Shannonville. Distance is about the same for me, but I'm in SW Mississauga, so I can avoid Toronto traffic with Grand Bend. I've been to Shannonville, but not Grand Bend.

Any advice? Just looking for opinions.

Thanks in advance.

I like both.

GB might be a bigger crowd. RC Shannonville will likely be only 30-40 bikes.

I cross TO as well and it is a pain. You will need to leave early.

I will be at Shannonville Thurs and GB Friday night.

Not if you go to Denny's Drive In on hwy 21. Same fries that used to be at the Cheryl Ann on the main strip 30 years ago. :)

Fabi fries cooked in oil that's been there since the previous season cannot be beaten for taste. :)

Thanks for the tip NOT to try them. haha...and the fries at Denny's are the SAME fries from 30 years ago. LOL

i like shannonville more, its a lot closer to the GTA, the track is certainly feels more VAST than any GB config, higher speed corners and variety, especially now since they've repaved some sections.

the shannonville area feels super ghetto tho, i guess that is one thing i like more about grand bend.

It's funny....when I first posted, you'd think I'd have realized that this would turn into a french fries thread very quickly. To be honest, the fries were never considered a deciding factor.

I have raced at both tracks and each has it's good points. Traffic on the weekends to Shannonville and back should be a bit better now that summer is over :-(
Just remember that SOAR at Grand Bend does an endurance race on Saturday afternoon that can be a bit boring for spectators. The up side is that the racers put on a great fireworks show Saturday night. Camping is available at both tracks. The town of Grand Bend is 10 minutes away and the beach is still there. A bit coolk for swimming but a nice place to spend the evening. parillaguy

The answer to your question will turn into a 5 page back and forth between riders. TomC's comments are valid.

Which have you ridden before?
What level of a rider are you?
What bike?

I say go to Shannonville. Leave the track less full for us going to GB :)

Seriously though, I agree with TomC. Except for me, SMP is more than twice the drive time of GBR. SMP I get blinded driving into the sunrise and sunset, GBR I have the sun at my back.

I've been to Shannonville 3 times (once with FAST on their R6) and Cayuga 5 or 6. I run in the yellow group and hold my own in the turns, but give it up in the long straights. I'm riding a '09 Yamaha FZ6R with modified brakes and suspension, so it's set up for my weight and style. From a power perspective, I would liken it to a SV650, but a little less pull out of the corners. In a nutshell, I like turns, not straight line speed.

Why not try something different? I found it beneficial to try as many different tracks you can. The reverse Screaming Alien circuit is a real treat, since they don't run it too often.

Grand Bend is a great facility. A huge asphalt pit area, city water, and a dump station for your trailer. You should come and check it out :)

OK. Grand Bend it is. I just wanted to make sure I didn't hear something like, "Only go to Grand Bend if you have no other options." Thanks for your help.

You're thinking of TMP. Only go to TMP if you have no other options, and even then you may wish to go to the beach or something instead. haha...

See you at GBR.

How dare you!! lol

You should have been there on our last Raining Endurance race, it was nail biting

reverse screaming alien is a lot of fun, on the gas around the carousel. Shannonville is quite far for me, but I do prefer it. I love the carousel and back straight at GB, but I love ever corner at SMP.
