gpx or routes for weekend trip USA?

If you would lke ot build a route using Google Maps (that lets you do streetview to see the roads, check terrain, etc) and run the route on your GPS you might want to take a look at TYRE. It converts from Google Maps to GPX routes.
Here's part of a route that I may use on a ride to Lake Placid and area with my GF some time in the next few weeks:

It's done on Google Maps.
You can convert it to a GPX file using TYRE, which can be found at:
http://www.tyretotravel.com/
Once you install and run TYRE you import Google Routes using the menu choice: File -> Import from Website. Then insert the url (for example the link above.) The Google Map route will show on the screen. Click "Import" at the bottom to import the route. You can then "SaveAs" a GPX. I havent tried it but you can save directly to the GPS. BOth Garmin and Magelen are supported.

thanks Tom, I never knew about tyre to travel, but it looks great to use. I was already groaning about using Garmin Basecamp because... it just doesn't look user friendly.

Just came back... Don't use day one or the first half of day 2... boring. Mix and match 2011 and the second half of 2012.
