GPS systems

Who has experience with GPS systems and can recommend a brand. What is the good, bad and ugly about them. The criteria I'm using for evaluating is ruggedness, mount ability, lighting / contrast, sound and usability. I drive a cruiser. Any thoughts?

There are a few threads in here about it with people's reviews on the various models, just do a quick search.

For me, I have tried all kinds of GPS stand alone units, and what I am currently using is what has worked for me the best (I used it on a 2 week trip around Portugal / Spain)

Cheap Ipod or Iphone (If you don't have one, buy it used on ebay) and the Copilot GPS app

To me having Offline GPS capability is important for when cellular reception is not available.

Yet to find a stand alone device that will have all the features and portability of this option.

Price wise a good GSP with all the features you want will run you at over 700 bucks, the ipod/Iphone solution could cost you less than 300 bucks

Garmin Zumo 660/665 is what I have, It is designed for motorcycle and is water-proof, rugged and allows you to load custom routes but over $700 plus mounts etc.

This is ideal but as stated in this thread there are many solutions including the iphone or just get a cheap Garmin and put it away when it rains.

However, if you like being able to build and load a route, then you need to get a unit that allows custom routes.

Lots of threads on this subject on here and on Google.

I use a Garmin 765t that i bought for about $170.I waterproof it with a ziplock bag.Works great and the mp3 is teriffic with the Wings sound system.I refuse to pay $700 for a mc specific unit.

"Welcome GPS Systems"

lol

Introduce yourself....

Thanks all. I also refuse to pay the prices as I have seen on various web sites...soon as you put the word motorcycle in front of it the price goes up!! I'll be using my iphone or old LG GPS system for now....how about being old fashion and using a map, remember those?
