Going to get my daughter a gps for her b'day.Radioworld has the Nuvi 40LM for $160.Looks good to me.Any feedback?

How bigs the screen? I bought a 5" garmin the other day at Walmart for 170$, good value.

I had a TomTom given to me (wouldnt have been my choice but it was a gift). It works nicely and it has a lifetime map upgrade (could be worth $100 ????). I have seen the same model I have for around $100.

The "LM" means that it has the lifetime free map upgrades, which is a good thing. I have the Garmin 465WT in my big truck and it has saved my arse more than a few times driving in unfamiliar cities at night, but if I want a map update it costs me $89 each time..

really? you can't buy lifetime updates for your unit?

Nope, have to pay every time I want an upgrade. And it's actually a 265WT, not the 465WT, the 465 is the next one I'll be getting as it is more truck specific in nature.

You can download the map updates periodically from various torrent websites.

Didn't know about that, will have to check it out. Thanks for the tip!

If it's for your daughter and it's for a car get one with lane information. It's really handy for making sure you prepare ahead for exits from multi-lane highways. Saves you veering over 4 lanes to make your exit.

+1. Garmin 1490lmt has lifetime maps, traffic and lane assist for $200 at Costco (I picked it it up for $170 on sale). Traffic is sometimes wrong but works reasonably well. It also knows Canadian speed limits (265wt only has us speed limits.
