Looking to replace my boat propeller.

1980's Johnson motor (Edit: 20HP)
3 blade propeller. 10 x 13, 14 spline tooth

Any recommendations for a good inexpensive source.

Current replacement part number 778863

What size engine? I have a 3 blade off a 30 hp Johnson sitting at the inlaws cottage. I pitched down to a four blade for water skiing behind a tinnie.

EDIT:
99% sure it is a 10x13 3 blade. It seems probable that it is 14 spline. It was on a 2004 2 stroke. I can bring it back on Canada day.

A long time ago, I (too often) used a place down near the docks in west end Hamilton.
Head north down Bay St until it ends. Whatever street that is, there should be several boat repair and parts shops.
I had 3 props.....usually beat 2 of them up every week, and brought them in for repairs.

Maybe I should ask first of this porp needs to be replaced

I was told that the small damage to 1 of the blades can send bad vibrations to the shaft etc.

Oof. I need to clean up the prop on the inlaws boat. He hit three stumps and a rock on the way to the trailer in the fall. In his defense, water is shallow and a minefield at that time of year. Not major damage but need a file and hammer to help it out.

You don't have a lot to lose. I would try to fix it. I wouldn't continue to run it like that (although many people do). If it goes wrong, you can buy mine for a lot less than a new one (assuming it fits).

Mine were always munched at least that bad, often with "bite marks" from rocks.
That's an easy repair for those shops I referred to.

I visited Dundas marine and called citywide propeller repair in Mississauga and looks like a repair would be $60-$90.

@oioioi, not sure where your located , place that Gary may be thinking of Dowsar in Hamilton , James @ Bay has a bunch of props , Klaus marine in Etobicoke has about a bazillion Johnson props in stock , City Propellor in Toronto has everything and can fix and rebalance yours if worthwhile . Bridge Yachts in port dover will have one most likely .
There is always EBay or Amazon .
You could go to a stainless prop which is more durable , however when you hit a log or rock it shock loads the drive gears and you don’t botch a $129 prop you loose a $1500 lower unit gear set .

I was on a boat a couple years ago when the prop fell off in the Welland Canal . Want to be hated ? Be that guy , $3000 folding bronze prop , think they missed the $0.79 cotter pin . Good times

Given the minefield that is the inlaws lake, I stick with aluminum on purpose. I will give up a little performance in exchange for easier repairs and some lower unit protection (although if you get lucky a stainless will spin the hub before it destroys the engine).

Spinning matter gains weight , physics class , so spinning up a lighter aluminum prop is almost always better on a small engine . Easier on the drive unit and better mileage.

I don't care about mileage. I want to extract maximum semi-affordable performance. I was able to kneeboard, tube, wakeboard and water ski behind that tinnie with the four blade. With one person on board, you could slightly overrev the engine and get just over 30 mph. Pulling an adult wakeboarder with two adults on board it could do 20 mph. Good enough. A bit slow for an adult water skiier but as proof of concept, I was able to do it with no major issues (water line in front of the bindings). For a kid, it works fine. Uses a hell of a lot less gas than a normal fibreglass cottage boat even if I drive around at full-throttle all the time.

EDIT:
My boat is not as fun as this one but I am willing to put my kids in mine.

For those that don't know, this guy put a 200 on a 14' Jon boat. It was as hard to control as you would expect. Realistically, they can't even use half of the power at any time. Further work required to get the power down.

I am in Milton, but go all over GTA

I did also speak with Dowsar and Klaus Marine as well.

Between the 3 shops I talked to I can get a new one between $150-$200, same day to next day depending on the shop.

Dowsar and Dundas Marine said they can get it repaired for $99 or approx $70, respectively. Did not ask Klaus about repair.
Both said its a week turnaround.

I have a feeling they all send it it CityWide Propeller Repair whom I called and they quoted me $60-$80 for the repair and also a week.

I am not in a huge rush for this as the current propeller is still "OK" but could be better.

Will wait for @GreyGhost to check on his and if he doesn't need it, will see if we can work out a deal.

I have a possible fishing day planned for Tuesday (pending weather) and will look into it better after this trip.

Good input from everyone anyways (as expected). 🍻

Just go buy the prop , your bearings will thank you .
It’s too bad Milton Marine closed ( retired) he was an actual mechanic for every brand .
