go pro questions

I had the gopro hero before, used it very little. Now i am thinking of buying the hero 3 but am unsure how the wifi deal works? So i see the black comes with the remote control but do you really need that or can you just use the gopro app? Also does that connect through the wifi in the remote and then the camera? Like if you are outside somewhere with no access to wifi would it still work?
Sorry if these are dumb questuions but I like the idea of not having to take the camera off to change settings or recording.

Answer 1: You can use the Go Pro app instead of the remote
Answer 2: The camera has it's own wifi signal: you can connect to the camera via your phone or tablet (but don't count on the range after 10 meters). The camera is a physical hotspot/router.

There is a Go Pro section in the multimedia or reviews.... run a search, lots of questions on there.

awesome, thanks for this!

The goPro app is very useful actually. its ok to setup the initial angle (pretty long lag time) but its real use comes in being able to manipulate the camera settings quickly. that being said, i don't own a touch screen so i have to use the remote when the camera is mounted on top of my helmet

do u still have a motorola brick phone?

Yes, the wifi is very useful for setting up the camera... just ignore the 2-3 second delay (even when you're a centimeter away from it :P)

But other than that, it serves no other purpose. Because of its limited range it can't be used for "spectating".
