Getting rid of cat piss smell

Ok so some retarded stray cat managed to piss on my waterproof nylon motorcycle cover. Needless to say I was not impressed, its not the fact than an animal whizzed on it, its about the fact that cat piss odor is hard to eliminate.

I am hoping to be able to get rid of the scent so I don't have to buy a new cover, anyone have success with taking on this disgusting task?

There are odor removal products such as these, but I'm a bit skeptical of their effectiveness. http://www.petsmart.com/family/index.jsp?categoryId=2768984&f=Taxonomy%2FPET%2F2768984&fbc=1&fbn=Taxonomy|Stain+%26+Odor

And people wonder why I'm not a cat lover! I am declaring war on cats now and Animal Control is my army! Bring it on pussies, I got the bad man with the cage on speed dial! :angryfire:

A good product is called "Orange Apeel" It's like fast orange but a clear, liquid, orange coloured concentrate with no pumice. I's kind of pricey but works awesome for getting stuff clean. It's used for deskunking pets etc. It takes grease off your hands really well too with a stiff bristle brush. I use it for a lot of stuff (I have 6 cats! lol also not a fan of cat piss smell) I know you can get it at GLOBO PETS. That is where I got mine.

Thanks for the recommendation!

you don't like pussy?

Sundance Kid doesn't like cats. But he likes to make the good kind purr.

I've had the pleasure of figuring out what does and doesn't work for cleaning cat pee. Unlike dog pee, this pee's got ammonia in it making it extra tough to get it out for good. If even a hint of it is left, any tomcat around knows it and would probably go over it with his own special brand.

You have to use an enzyme-based pet cleaner. It's the only thing that saved my sanity.

Any decent pet store stocks one.

Good luck!

Here's a long shot - at scuba shops you can get a product called "sink the stink" an enzyme based cleaner for removing the funk from wetsuits (and we know the source of much of the funk, now don't we). I wonder if you got two capsules of that stuff (around $2 apiece) and soaked the cover in a laundry tub or some such.

What bike are you riding? Typically cats don't piss on good bikes, especially covered ones ... The cat must have had a reason .... don't blame the animal, blame your bike ... :-)

I ride a sporty spice...err uh bike. The retarded feline didn't piss on my bike, I took the cover off and left it folded neatly on the ground at the top of the driveway (closest to the house). When I returned from a spin last night I picked up the cover to put it on and got punched in the face with the odor of the cat whiz.

For the record I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING to the cat. But like bugs bunny says...."this means war!" (on the cats)

I'm not aiming to turn this into a debate about cats vs. dogs or cats vs. humans. I don't like cats - but that doesn't mean I'd go out of my way to do something to the cat. I just keep my distance from them and I want them to do the same. What you said about blaming me or my bike isn't really pertinent to my original post so beyond this response I'm only interested in exchanging ideas about how to fix the situation.

Honestly good luck trying to get that smell out. All those fancy products from pets mart won't do ****. Your best bet is to pick up a bottle of vinegar and dump it in the washing machine with a whole bunch of detergent. Even after that the odor may be unnoticeable to you but a cat will still be able to smell it and will most likely spray all over it again. I own two cats and I've been down this road a few times. I've learnt the best thing is to throw away whatever it is they sprayed on.

Google says vineger, hydrogen peroxide and elbow grease

bingo!!
U beat me to it.
The piss is made up of Ammonia, which is alkali. Use an acid such as vinegar. Just soak it in vinegar only, then wash it.

I always wondered if you ****** on an animal would that make it your "*****"? After all you just declared it your property in animal language!

I say piss on your bike then piss on any cat you find. That's not inhumane....just inhuman.

Sorry man, that's just gross.

I had OK luck with Spray 'n Wash but it sounds like there's better, more hardcore solutions out there. Good luck.

piss vs piss. Is your piss man enough to destroy cat piss? Mine is. I can send you some.

Jeez ... I was kidding. Good luck with your war on cats ... sounds like you will need it.
