i noticed some shopping mall kiosks that sell phone cases also have cell phone unlocking services. Can anyone tell me if they are no different from what someone can learn to do by themselves watching it on youtube or are they more professional. Do they have access to better unlocking softwares and methods?? Who would u go to...would u guys prefer to go to some chinese shop at pacific mall or a kiosk at vaughan malls. Can anyone recommend a real professional iphone unlocker to me...where I could syn my old content on itunes on the unlocked phone without crashing it.

Anything they do, you can do yourself. They don't have any special tools or resources that you couldn't also use.

Just do it online for $5 I think. You send the money via PayPal and they send you the code couple minutes later. I've done it before.

For the iphone? NO

You have to jailbreak you iphone then unlock it. All free.

i used this website with my iphone. works great!

http://www.jailbreakme.com/

visit it with your iphone, make sure u are plugged in to a power source.

Don't waste money. It is EASY to jailbreak and unlock nowadays. Just YouTube for alot of video walkthroughs and just follow along.

With the iPhone news of the Apple launch, the number of iPhone ... in all of this, getting an iPhone hack to unlock the beast is not going to be ... Unfortunately, until we get iPhone hack that will open up the iPhone to third party ...

No to a lot of the above. First of all it depends what iphone you have and what baseband. Second do you want to jailbreak or unlock? Jailbreak to install unofficial stuff. Unlock to change carrier.

Give me more details and I will give you your best option. Also be very careful with all the websites out there. There are a lot of scams.

Is there an actual unlock you can do for your iPhone outside of the carrier doing it for you? I know you can jail break and go that route, but you lose everything if you do an update. Whereas with blackberry (at least older ones) you could buy a code to unlock your device, and it was permanent, not a software thing.

Jailbreaking does NOT unlock your phone. If you backup the JB stuff you dont lose anything.
Carrier unlocks depends on carrier. There are a bunch of carrier unlock sites floating around. I bet most are fake but some work. http://absinthejailbreak.com/unlock-iphone-4s-4-3gs-3g-baseband/ This one's probably legit.

Then there's gevey. I have my 4S unlocked with gevey. http://www.gevey.com/gevey/gevey-turbo-sim/

I've seen hardware unlocks

Get your carrier to unlock it (if you meet their criteria). For iPhones locked to Canadian carriers, you are roughly looking around 200$ to getting it unlocked online (anything drastically different tends to be a scam).

The jailbreak method is completely wonky, and useless on newer iPhones (post 4S) as their baseband (cellphone driver) are too far ahead from the software devs to find an exploit.

Gevy sim slots are the 2nd best option. But you have to beware that some updates will have you lose your unlock with that too, leaving you to buy a newer gevy sim when they find a way to make one.

In general, jailbreak is a waste of time, carrier unlock is your best bet. Gevy sim is a great temporary solution.
