Getting a track only Honda 600 - which model/year to get or to avoid???

looking forward I can see a track only Honda 600 in my garage. I'm thinking maybe pick one up at the end of this riding season, so I have lots of time to reseach this topic.

I would buy used and one that is already "track ready" with some mods already made.

Is there a model or year to avoid or to target? I know nothing about this topic yet so some suggestions of where to start looking, or where to NOT look, from those who know, would be appreciated.

Anything I buy will vetted (inspected) prior to purchase by Riders Choice so I'm not concerned I'll get stuck with a lemon.

Thanks.

er...why not just get the latest and greatest...07+

The F4i is a very different bike than the RR. I assume you mean you'll get an RR.

Any year of 600RR is capable of being a great track bike. The newer ones have some more updated componentry but realisitically they're all good bikes. Older ones = cheaper. Newer ones = more spendy. Pick your budget, find the best set up bike in that price range you can find. I'd take an 05-06 track bike with good parts on it over a stock 07+ if they were similarly priced.

The above responses are correct. If you are budget driven, you can get a F4i for cheap cheap, a RR -03-06 for cheap or the latest gen 07+.

I've owned a 03 RR track bike and multiple 07's (3). The difference between the 03 and the 07 was night and day. As Murf said, weight power and handling, the difference is redonk. The first day out on the 07, I kept turning in too early and the effort required was exponentially less.

I'd say 07 and up FTW if it fits in your budget. Tons on line for sale too.

Thanks a lot for the input. This is great info.

So correct me here if needed but I understand what has been shared to mean there is not a dog in the bunch and you can get your monies worth from a healthy market supply.

Now for the fun part = setting a limit and shopping for a fair deal.

I know of a tricked out 07 600rr which may be for sale. This is a real, real nice bike. Taken straight from the showroom, stripped and dressed for the track.

When I was researching in March this year the 07+ seemed the best to go for.

^ Does Dave know you're selling his bike?

When you're looking, let me know.

I've got a line on a few, pretty well prepared Honda's that will be available at the end of the season.

He's a nice guy and he has way too many bikes anyway.

It's actually a mate of Annus. He has a HRC 600rr and this 07 bike he built himself. I nearly bought it at the start of this season.

i have had every thing from the f4i to the rr. the f4i has more mid range grunt but the rr has way better handling
Really? What did you do to the F4i to give it more mid range than the RR? Interested.

Why does it have to be a Honda?
