Hey,

Just curious if anyone has heard about GBM's road course lately? They're site says they were shoot for mid to late June (or sooner)...

Have they started laying down the new beautiful black stuff?

I was there last week. The girl in the office said the rain hasn't allowed them to start.Ken might have better info.

I'm not an expert, but i do know that pavement has a curing time and process.I'll be quite fine with waiting for next year.

Man.... It won't be until August till this thing opens lol

I doubt it will be ready until next year, but that's just my personal guess. I'm just trying not to get my hopes up!

I was sooo jacked up for this track to open.... as you know Kelly it's only 45 minutes from my house in London. Its about time we have a decent track locally ;)

Is SOAR going to be able to race there come aug? and if so, is the track going to be a little slick with such a short curing time?

Me too buddy! They can't help the weather though....so it's not a question of if it's a question of when. I'm willing to wait until next year for a well cured track that's been tested a few times. ;)

Exactly. Judging from their website it seems to be a well run organisation compared to other ON tracks, so I'm hoping they will make the best decision for our long-term interests rather than bow to any pressure to get it done now.

They havent been able to get heavy equipment on it because of the crazy rain we have had this spring. I have been assured that the contractor is on standby and as soon as they can they will be laying black top. The track needs a month to cure, less with lots of rain (after paving) seeing as we are not there until mid August I am still pretty comfortable with the time line.
There is no need to wait till next year wing boy. Hell they paved Daytona and raced on it two weeks later. Just sayin......
Good old GTAMers, never seen so many pessimists all gathered in one place. The owner is very much as interested likely more so in getting this done.

Just heard from the owner. The track has finally dried out with heavy equipment right now on the ground doing the final grading. Expected to take better part of next week with asphalt down after that.

That's awesome news! So lets say asphalt down week of the 27th, following that is this "curing time" which there's many different opinions on. Any idea how long the owner plans to let the track sit before opening it up? The SOAR races in August should obviously run as scheduled, I've got a day booked with Forest City Honda July 23rd. If the track needs a month curing, it'll be tight.

I have been told max one month however with lots of rain the time is alot shorter. So no rain now is good, lots of rain after is better.

That's awesome! Long term forecast is calling for some rain this coming Wed and Thurs, but the forecast is all clear before and after!

Update per website:

"June 21st - We are currently grading the roadways with paving to begin Monday July 4th (we were expecting it to be next week but our contractor is behind on other jobs due to the spring weather and had to back us up a week) We expect paving to take 5 to 7 days. Once completed we will be consulting with our pavers and looking at the first feasible date that we can start operating knowing the pavement will need a little time to cure etc. We're underway !"

Paving has begun have a look at the SOAR Facebook page for the first pic that was just posted by EMR
