Gauge and KM question

Hey guys,

a buddy of mine might be buying a bike from an original owner, it's a 2007 ZX6R with approx 6,000 km on it,

The gentleman seems to be a stand up guy, but my friend wants to know if its easy on that year bike to swap the gauge clusters to show lower km's. I wasn't sure how to answer his question, so i figured i'd ask everyone here.

If the gauge cluster has been swapped, would the previous km's be stored in the bike's comp, or are they stored in the gauge cluster ?

Hope this doesn't sound confusing,

thanks
Drew

I can understand everyone's concern in replying to this thread, but i'm not asking this question to get info on swapping clusters, all this question is, is for my buddy to know if he may or may not be getting ripped off.

He's new to riding so he's worried.

I know that swapping or lowering Km's is wrong and illegal, i was just seeking some info on the gauges, i'm not sure myself if the Km's are stored in the gauge, or the bike's computer.

klm's are stored in the memory of the gauge, not the black box. 6000klm, don't worry about it unless the drain plug has been drilled and safety wired.

I can't say for that bike specifically but I'm pretty sure the vast majority store the odo memory in the gauge cluster. I know that my bike does. Heck, even my Nissan Murano does! It's a relatively simple matter of swapping them out so, yes, it is very possible but what you gonna do? One less reason to shop by mileage and have it checked out instead.

thanks for the reply guys ! much appreciated !
