Does anyone have an idea how much it costs for electricity, gas and water for one person? I rent out a room in my townhouse to a bud of mine, but am considering giving him the boot closer to summer. I don't charge him much in rent at all but want to make sure the loss of income doesn't affect my current lifestyle too much as I'm running lean as it is already. It's a 3 level townhouse that is pretty well insulated and currently has two occupants, myself and the roomie.

Adding one person isnt much a majority of the charges are on the initial person and cost of keeping a house running. I was around $150 for myself Gas/Electricity monthly (well so no water). When the wife moved in it went to between $150-$175 on avg.
that really depends, if he likes to take 4 showers a day at 45 minutes each and leave all the lights on 24/7 you might have a bit of a problem
He's actually good with all that stuff. I just really miss having a place fully to myself, and more than that I'm really tired of having to shuffle the cars around all the time to get in and out(garage and single driveway), not to mention when riding season comes around as it's a pain in the culo to take the bike out or for when I need to wrench. Not sure if the extra income is worth all the hassle..

most of the time...its the delivery charge, and other fees is what causes hydro/gas bills to be so high.
town house - myself - im paying $110-$150/month....with another person...it was upwards of $140-$175.
My water consumption does increase...with 2 ppl its about 1.5x-1.7x as much, by myself im paying $30....with two ppl its $50-$60

If the renter has a drivers licence he might be a liability on your vehicle insurance depending on his record etc. That might create a different type of hot water.
