Always been attracted to the bike and friend in Canada has one with 60k km trouble free.
He has a 2008 so very similar bike
This one has 35k km - original set up which I prefer. I like high revving inline 4s and while I would dearly love a VTec Honda 400 they remain a high price
This might fit my very limited budget and hits the right note with me, safety etc.

Extra power would be very nice, centre stand a real bonus for my situation and hopefully a more comfortable seat for day trips up to 400 km but mostly 150-300.
Bigger tank but the same range as the CB300.
Gonna sit on it tomorrow. Must admit like the twin under seat exhausts. :sneaky:
Cb300f with the big top case much more utility but nowhere near the fun and at this point would like the fun.
Insight useful.

@nyx had one and liked it.

That’s a different bike - the FZ6R.
I don’t know much about them other than the FZ6 is supposed to be more powerful. Some people complain it’s too high revving for any real power.

I also like that undertail exhaust. Lots of people who have had the FZ6 were quite happy with them. Seems like a great middleweight sport touring bike.

It is a 2007+ model, so that has the improved brakes, EFI, and other stuff

I had one and I liked it. The only reason why I got rid of it was the seating position and actually the lack of wind protection.
The seating was still a little forward but not as much as a sport bike.

The undertail exhaust is really cool looking.
I wish more bikes did that.

Undertail looks cool but comes with disadvantages. Higher risk of burning yourself, harder to use soft luggage, a warmer seat (sometimes an advantage)

I have a 2007 fz6 and here is what I think.

If you're looking for a bike that's a tourer with enough power, you won't go wrong. The exhaust leaves the storage under the seat really hot. For shorter rides, I usually put a small bottle of water there and with this bike, I cannot do that (or I need a heat wrap). I have the original seats, and it's much more comfortable than my previous SV. I think I can easily do 150-200 km stretch without much complaints.

I get around 5L/100 km. I ride sane most of the time maintaining between 5 to 7k rpm. I find that around this range, I have enough power to cruise around in the city and on the highway. Above 10k rpm, free crotch massage due to the vibrations lol, and the bike also comes alive. With a good exhaust, I think it will sound sweet around that rev range.

Personally, I am not a great fan of the bike. It's a bit on the heavier side and I have always preferred sports bikes and super sport bikes (personal preference). The rear shocks on mine are not to my liking and I'm debating spending time and money on it, probably not. I have had the bike for a year now, it has 61k km on it, no issues other than the regular maintenance. I'll probably keep it for another season or so, just because the insurance doesn't make a dent in my wallet with this one.

If you got questions, happy to answer.

I had a KTM 950 with under seat exhaust and I found the heated air would sometimes gather around my lower back. Mostly at slower speeds. On more than one occasion it got to the point of annoying.

It may not be an issue with this bike, but it's something to be mindful of.

Gutless below 8k, no character at all.

At least my cbr500 made real world power and got good gas mileage. Worst bike I've ever owned.

Also remember the brakes being wooden (not fixed with better pads, bleeding, or steel braided lines)

I actually looked at similar fz6, in blue colour too, before buying mine brand new.
The fz6 has more horsepower than the fz6r. I can’t speak for the 2007 model, but newer ones like mine don’t have great throttle response after 160. But won’t need much in the city, more like long touring way out west.
It’s good all around bike otherwise.

Had an 06' .

Good all rounder. Seat is a brick after an hour. Great fuel mileage. Rode it up the JBR.

Spooling it up into the 10,000 -11,000 RPM range get tedious after a while (redline 12,500 or something)

no where near the risk of the exposed can on the CB300F which should come with a very obvious warning sticker cept it would burn off.
Warm seat good for my sciatica.

I'll wait and see on the FZ6 as it is a step back in years by quite a lot...I'd prefer something in the 2020s and ideally with a bit of off pavement.
Speeding fines and enforcement here are so strict I'd have to ride an hour to get into the lower risk outback areas tho the thrill in the throttle would be sweet.
Everything depends on getting $3k+ for the 2015 CB300F - if not then won't move.....can't move...most I could spend is $1500 above that and street bikes are scarce up here....far more dual sports and flat out off road machines around and a smattering of cruisers at silly prices.
The 2022 Vstrom 250 I missed at $3900 would have worked IF I can sell the CB. Mileage is too high on the CB for dealer trades ( 65k km ).
So far the 2015 CB300f prices are holding as excellent commuter and LAMS bike with insanely good mpg.
Still working on the seat and guess I have to bite the bullet and buy a C3 helmet visor despite the $$$.
I might try my AFX helmet today. It's got better FOV and much cheaper visors tho it's not a flip-up. The FOV is so large tho I can drink on the go and I have a lovely platinum visor for it - perfect for crystal clear days like today.
Potential buyer for the CB300 will come by on Tuesday. 🍿
Did up the spare helmet with the sound deadening trick and will see how it stacks against the C3. My IEMs only drop sound -25db so quieter helmet helps. This helmet used to be very quiet and I realized I'd removed the sound proofing. Looking forward to it.
Been toying with the idea of goggles ala Itchy Boots but think that has some downsides as well.
They might work with the AFX. Anyone ride with goggles?

I kinda hafta ask though - your son had an FZ8, right? Any reason you're not considering a Fazer 8? Unless it's just that there's not that many of them

I found his bike top heavy and too much forward lean. I've not tried an FZ6 so don't have a reference. I certainly don't need the extra weight or power.

This is a target bike - there is one for $2990!! a continent away but I suppose it could be shipped. ( found out it would cost $1,000 to ship so that's out. )
good reviews and the one above is not first year model.

Much will depend on selling the CB300F ..prospective buyer coming by Tuesday.
Was pretty comfortable on the 160km ride today.
