The house that i moved into this summer never has a dirty filter... is this normal? My old house i would change every 3 months it would be very dirty.

The a/c and the heating both appear to work fine. The house is 6 years old

Any feedback would be appreciated

Thanks

Every house is different. Do you have pets, is the house dusty, ect

Proximity to heavy road traffic makes a difference.

Stupid question but you will be amazed by how many people make the mistake.
Is your filter being put in the correct way? May be backwards. Arrow must point towards the furnace.

Do you find excess dust in the house?

Make see your cold air ducts aren't blocked.

Have you held a new one and old one next to each other? Keep on mind it collects in the inside of the filter. It's only when you wait a long period the dust and such makes its way to the exterior surface.
I'd you change them regularly this would be the more appropriate answer I believe.

Your house heating and cooling properly? Good airflow? Motor is woking?

Anyone use a washable furnace filter?

Had my furnace cleaned last year and the guy wanted to sell me one

Ended up saying no and kept buying the disposable ones

you can buy washables at home depot.

also i tell home owners to inspect the filter monthly. replace if its dirty.

every home is different and from checking monthly the homeowner can figure out how often to inspect it and change.

Don't waste your money on the higher end filters, the entry level ones serve the same purpose......unless you have money to waste?

Have you checked to see if the return vents are blocked? Sounds very peculiar

Everything seems to work okay
The filter is in the correct way
The house is not dusty
It is 2200 sq feet
I have two cats

The cold air n return vent are these the same?
If so are they the ones in the house that suck back in the air?

I was referring to the ones that suck back air in.

Returns (especially for recent houses) are typically a white register that is larger than a regular register on the floor. Also either above the baseboard or high up on the wall on the second floor.

It's called a cold air return. He's talking about the same thing you are. Lol

I've noticed that with some of the filters they don't appear dirty, but when I hold them up to the light (especially when side-by-side with a brand new filter) I can then see the buildup.

When I moved into my house it looked as if the previous owners had never changed the filter. blech.

Don't get the really cheap ones that have no support at the back. They normally cave-in
