Funny Moment with a York Regional

I forgot about this one:

This past Tuesday I was heading into work on my bike, at the time riidng on hwy 9 west of Newmarket. There was clump of cars held back behind a semi-stealth York Regional cruiser that was in the left lane doing about 80 kph. I worked my way though traffic and got up beside him. I flipped up the front of my modular helmet and waved at him. He gave me a "V" peace or victory sign, and then a thumbs up. A moment later he picked up his radar unit and got a car going the other way. Lights and sirens went on, he nodde at me, and then he pulled a U-turn. I thought it was kind of funny. After that none of the cars behind me passed me as I rode in the right lane just below 100kph.

Probably thought you were a fellow popo.

that's awesome!

I remember a few weeks ago riding in Guelph heading up to the forks and at a red light an OPP van pulled up beside me and was checking out the bike etc... I flipped the visor waved and we both left on the green light. I was cruising in the left lane doing 65 in a posted 50 and they kept right beside me. we both eventually looked at each other chuckled and I turned left and they turned right at the Hwy 6 intersection..... had to laugh because we all were probably thinking "get you next time" or something like that hahahah

Good for you guys who aren't the normal "Lets all do under the speed limit and not pass a cop kind of people" That crap drives me up the wall and the hwy's are the worst like gtfo of the fast lane if you want to do 90 so you don't have to pass a cop. I cruise/rip by them all the time like 10-20 over and never have an issue. Sometimes they will run up behind to run the plates but have rarely been pulled over.

I think it depends where and how you do it. Generally in York Region you won't get bothered if you are doing less than 100 in an 80 zone unless you are drawing attention to yourself in some other way.

you'd probably be a little more cautious after getting a few tickets too...

I've gotten a ticket for driving 60 in a 50 zone, so I'm not gonna take my chances and take a day off to go to court.

Sounds like he was cruising to give a ticket. I wouldnt have risked it.

I have been pulled over numerous times just never gotten a ticket. I'm courteous and pleasant when dealing with them which is probably why I haven't actually gotten a ticket. The whole point of my post is the fact it's not illegal to pass an officer but a majority of people actually impede traffic by going under the speed limit. I think the best was when I got pulled over for waving when I passed an officer. Officer thought I was initially giving him attitude and being cheeky by passing and waving when I was really just waving to thank him for moving over into the center lane.

I got a 65 in 60 ticket once so if I see a cruiser, I stick to the limit.

I've gone thru a couple speed traps and not been tagged. I wasn't going crazy fast but the bike might be helping me out! Funny how people put down, get off their cell phones and move to the right when I'm behind them. Something to be said about wearing hiviz...oh..and riding a police bike with lights and sirens lol

Is that really sirens and lights??
Are u the po po?

no popo. lights and sirens, and it all works. Had to tape over the police decals front and rear. I even have the shotgun mount.

dang perfect for my fishing rod!!

The reaction you get depends a lot on what you are riding. They almost never blink an eye at a lone VStrom with a topcase doing 20 over the limit, but I would not want to be doing 5 or 10 over on a sportbike in leathers, especially in a group.

Passed 2 OPP on the way home from work last night. First was in a van doing the limit in the centre lane of the 401 @ 25. I was doing 110+/-. He pulled out behind me to pass a car, and sat in behind me all the way to Campbellville Rd. Second one was at the lights at Black's corner south on 6. He was in the right lane. Myself and a guy in the left lane accelerated to 90+/- from the lights. I looked (way) back after a couple of kms. The cop was doing the speed limit with a conga line behind and in the lane beside him. If you're not acting stupid or driving slammed rice, they don't pay much attention to you.

They must think its so funny too.. Lol.. I would :)

I got pulled over and ticketed for passing a cop a few years ago. I didn't blow past him or anything, just slowly made my way through the crowd and once my tire was forward of his bumper he cherried me.

Reminds me of driving around in my dad's 9C1 Caprice ... those were the days. :)
