Full face helmet and glasses

I want to hear from people who wear glasses and ride. Contact lenses are not an option for me, because my eyes can't take them. I've tried them all, trust me. Modular Helmets are a great option, I've tried and it works but I've read some horror stories, about people who go down with a modular helmet and sustain permanent eyes socket damage. The modular helmets don't have same protection since the temple area contains the flip up mechanism, where the foam/padding protection is on regular full face helmets.

Regarding the full face helmet, I can't even put my glasses on as I feel like they are bending/getting crushed if the helmet is of the correct size for my head. If the helmet is a bit bigger, it's no problem, but there goes the right fit and safety of the helmet.

Anybody has any experience ?

Wear a shoei rf1100 and I have glases.
1 pair does t fit..they are too wide.
my oakley jawbones fit perfect and so does 1 other pair I own.

Bring your helmet in when trying on frames.. you will find that some will be ok and some wont be.

As noted - always take your helmet when shopping for new frames. I've got 2 pr of Nike flexible frames for my prescription glasses which fit ok with Arai and Icon lids. The arms have very little curve shape that normally goes around the ear - these stay 'on' the ear. Although Bell fits me the best, I can't get the glasses on while wearing one.

+1. I wear an Arai Corsair V and the glasses I have (both regular and prescription sunglasses) both have plastic frames. I find they are much more comfortable than metal.

I am guessing, everbody puts on the helmet first and then glasses ? Other way doesn't work for me.

I wear glasses and have a Scorpion EXO-500. No issues with the glasses fitting under. and yes helmet then glasses.

RF-1100 and thin framed glasses work fine for me. Only issue is it can be a PITA to have to take glasses on and off so many times if I want to keep taking my helmet off for some reason (so I tend not to).

speaking from experience, you can get permanent eye socket damage wearing a full-face helmet

Wow what accident caused that?

^^^ +1

I'm going to guess that if you weren't wearing a helmet, you wouldn't be around to post. That couldn't have been caused by a low speed low side.

Forgot to add, I wear glasses every time I ride and some times it takes a while to maneuver them into place, but once there, I don't notice any discomfort.

Bell Vortex helmet with glasses here. Issue was trying to fit them when the. The helmet was new but the padding molded and no issues now.

unfortunately once I had them on and forgot when putting the helmet on...new pair of glasses was needed!

I have an Icon Alliance helmet and thick black glasses, I find the frame must be quite solid so it doesn't bend when you are squeezing your glasses on through the visor opening.

I am planning to get glasses with much wider and taller lens so it can cover as much viewing area as possible.

I've never had a problem. Taking the glasses off before removing the helmet is not that big of a deal. I don't have a problem fitting the glasses, but then I wear a XXXL helmet. Maybe there is extra room in there for the arms of the specs. Wire frame glasses and not quite, coke bottle bottom, trifocals. I have 2 different pairs of frames and have never had an issue. Mind you, I always have my glasses with me, when I bought the helmet. I don't know if that helps or not.

I agree, that the frame must be solid and preferrably plastic. The ones i have now are quite flexible and out of metal so I feel like I'll break them.

I don't wear glasses but I wear sunglasses because I use a clear visor and have never had any problems wearing them under all three of my helmets (2-HJC and my current AGV), sometimes it doesn't go over the ear but does most of the time and while riding it can askew but you just life the visor push them back to sit properly.

the key is to find glasses that have a thin frame; unfortunately, also look for cheap frames too! because i've already mangled my $300 prescription frameless glasses.

i wear SHOEI QWEST

Hey,

The best bet is to take your glasses when you buy a helmet as stated above.

When I last helmet shopped There were very few helmets that worked with my glasses.

Some would press the frame into and hurt my face/head. Some would not allow the glasses in, and some would shift my glasses up almost out of the field of view.

You really need a helmet which is a good match for your particular glasses. If you can't find one then get different glasses before buying a helmet that's too big.

Helmets that work well with my plastic and wire glasses are the Suomy Vandal and Arai Signet Q.

Arai helmets have always lent themselves well to glasses for me, your mileage may differ.

None of the Joe Rocket helmets I tried on at Royal let my glasses sit properly, so I had to go with an HJC helmet.

You might want to look at Schuberth C3. I have one and it's great for glasses. I can't comment on the eye socket issue though.

I wear glasses and haven't had a problem with Shoei, AGV, Marushin...tighter helmets just take a bit of glasses wiggling. Good idea to take a helmet with you when getting new frames.
