fuel pump won't prime

600rr. took it out of the garage from doing maintenance on it. Cleaning air filter checking plugs the usual. put the tank back on and now fuel pump won't prime. No tip over sensor as it's a no fairing bike and I have the bypass done correctly because it was running before. checked my relays, checked all the basics I could think of. She turns over just doesn't fire. not a dead battery. Just no fuel pump prime. Is there anything that would stop the fuel pump from priming when I removed the air box and everything. I'm taking a break for now as I'm getting frustrated, but will go back at it later on. Any input would be good as I may just not be looking at something correctly or just being stupid.

Thanks

My pump died middle of last season. It happens sometimes. You can check the pump directly with 12V to see if it's the problem.

is it a external pump on that RR? or is the pump in the tank?

You can usually by-pass it / test it using a battery and some connectors...

There will be a wiring connector in the harness that supplies power to the pump. IIRC the 600RR also has a fuel gage so there will be wiring for the fuel level sensor too.

Make sure that connector is properly connected. If it is, disconnect it and get a test light to probe the connector on the main harness side. One of the wires will be power supply to the pump. When you turn the ignition on that power supply wire should go hot for a few seconds so the pump can prime the fuel system.

If none of those wires go hot when you turn the ignition on you have a power supply problem so check fuses and the rest of the main harness. If one of those wires does go hot you have an issue with your fuel pump.

Possibly a failed pump but likely related to the work you've just done. Re-check everything you did and make sure all connectors are properly seated and clicked in.

Test as per Caboose's recommendation, however instead of a test light use a volt meter to ensure you have 12V.

Encountered this problem a few times with 600RR's, sometimes its just forgetting to plug something in...Other times its been faulty wiring in the ignition switch, or shorts in the wiring harness...

faulty wiring in the ignition...i've encounter that issue...but that usually leads to no spark. I dont think I've seen a Honda that doesnt prime the fuel pump due to t that special resistor being burnt out in the ignition switch

+1

I guess you've got it figured out since youre probably out riding instead of posting :)

Had the same experience on my Vstrom. Turned out to be a poor connection at the relay switch. A little bit of a wiggle and all was good.
