Fuel Injection light "ON"

Hi Guys
I'm riding a Suzuki C109 2008, and just notices the Injector's light stays on when I'm riding. I don't know exactly when it started coming on. My feeling is that it may have happened in a start up a few days ago. I checked the fuses they all seam fine and I haven't added anything new to the bike. And the bike seams as happy as ever, no loss of power or engine noise at all. I even zeroed my power commander V incase it was caused by the unit. But, the FI light is still "ON".

Any thoughts on that will be much appreciated.

FI = Fault Indicator

You'll need to put the bike into dealer mode to see fault code. If the Suzuki cruisers are like my Gixxers, there should be a connector under the seat somewhere with just a dust cap on it. You short two of the pins to get the bike into dealer mode. You'll need to find the service manual for your bike for the specifics. I'm sure someone with more knowledge of your specific bike could be more detailed but this should get you going on the diagnostics.

I had this issue last summer following storage. I took my bike to get the code checked and it came up with nothing. I was so frustrated. I eventually fixed the problem by increasing the idle a few notches and it hasnt come back on.

Did the problem go away after you turned it on at higher idle right-away? Also, have you left it at the higher idle since or did you bring it down at some point later?

Thanks,

Yeah it went away immediately and then stayed off at the higher idle (yes I left it). I had always run it at a lower idle from the time I got it (thinking it was normal), so the higher idle felt weird. But I had a few mechanics tell me it sounded better higher. At any rate it was weird because the light came on one day but the bike gave no indication of anything being wrong and displayed no code. There is another person on the forum with the same bike that had a similar issue which resolved the same way. Hopefully, its that simple for you.

Thank you for all your inputs guys. Just to give you a feed back, the FI light disappeared just as weird as it appeared. The only thing I did before planning to increase the idle position was pouring injector cleaner in my tank. I, then, rode it for 30-40 kilometres and let it cool off for the afternoon. When I started the engine, to my surprise, no FI light came on. I haven't taken it out for a ride after that they, cause its raining in Aurora today. But if I see the light re-appear ( not that I'm expecting it) I'll let you know.

I have always used Petro-Canada's 94 octane which is the highest octane out there in gas stations, except for the past 2-3 weeks which I have used Costco's 91 octane (their highest octane) at their gas stations. Could use of a lower grade gas be the cause of this problem? but the service manual for my bike suggests 91 octane and up. SO.....I don't know just some food for thought.

Thanks again.

Hey thats great. I doubt the octane level in the gas is the issue. You should actually stick with whatever your manual says. Dont assume you are getting better performance based on a higher octane. In fact the reverse can be true. Search the forum there are tons of threads on this. I use 87 in mine and generally have no issues and get the best milage at that octane. The FI cleaner you put in th tank probably loosened something.

I think this is because of faulty sensor, check the manual and follow the self diagnosis procedure to solve this problem.

My Bandit 1250 gets finicky with fuel and will thro the Fi light only at high revs with any fuel that has ethanol. And it will thro the Fi light almost everytime I fill with 94.
If I run shell 91 ethanol free i have no issues.
Run a couple tanks of the shell 91 and see if that helps.
Either way I think your on the rite track with it being fuel related.
The light will reset itself everytime bike is restarted, if it can back on imidiatly It would be a hard fault (sensor malfunction or failed part). The Fi light is coming on because of fuel issues at certain rpm/load conditions.

That's my gut's feeling too, boooya, it's got to be the fuel, cause the only thing new that I have tried recently is this new fuel. I'm also in the process of getting a SDS tool-set and the software that comes with it. Hopefully, I can get it from somewhere cheap so I can do my own diagnostics/repair. I thing it'd be a good investment not having to pay the "stealerships" all the time for every little thing.

There possibly could be a problem with your fuel - pump or it might not be delivering ideal pressure, or the regulator itself might be bad. And without proper knowledge we are always at the mercy of local dealer. and ther might even be an problem with the fuel itself as being pointed out there are of plethora of things that we might or may not know ..
so best luck buddy

I got an OBD-0S1 diagnostic tool from XperTech sports bikes a couple of weeks ago and it indicated ISC (Idle Speed Control)motor valve to low. I haven't figured out how to adjust my ISC yet. I think it can be done through the OBD tool that I got. Just haven't done yet.
Can ISC be adjusted manually? Is this something that needs t be done every so often or something?

That should be controlled by the ecu, have you tried fresh gas and it's still causing an issue?

Actually, I tried the costco premium 91 twice and in both cases I got the FI light coming on. Then I used Shell 91 for refills and in both cases the FI light vanished. So I have keep on using Shell 91 octane and no FI light so far " knock on wood". SO....don't know what to say!!!
