Fuel gauge never full

I've been noticing since I got the bike that the fuel gauge never goes to full; at first I though I just wasn't putting in enough gas to have it be full but the last two fill ups I did I was looking straight into the fuel tank as I was filling it and I didn't stop until it was on the verge of going above the hole and into the par for the cap but my fuel gauge still showed a little over 3/4.

So is the fuel gauge right and I'm just over estimating how close to being full I am when I fill up? Or is there something that is preventing it from reading properly and is there any easy fix for this?

I'm planning a trip to Montreal soon and last thing I want is to get stranded somewhere away from a station. even though I do plan on having a gas canister in my saddlebag.

thanks

dont look straight down. Fuel splashing and getting into your eyes is more common than you think.

You can safely fill gas upto your filler neck. Don't rely on gas gauge.

I had the visor down when I was looking down to prevent that from happening, also I wasn't relying on the gauge as I was filling up; the key was not even in the ignition since I used it to open the tank. It's after when I finish and start her back up that I look at the gauge.

As stated above do not solely rely on fuel gauge. Use one of your trip odometers to record how many km's you put on the bike between fill up's. Mind you things will be different on the highway versus city riding so juts try to find a happy medium. For me at 200km's I start looking for a gas station, I ride a 1000cc so I am sure you can get to 300 without issue.

Mine show just over 3/4 full immediately after a fill. It shows empty when it's empty so that's what counts. The 250 is terrible for measuring fuel level reliably. Just learn how many km you get to a tank and go with that. 250s get between 200 and 400 to a tank depending on who is lying about what and what mods were done.
