From Mississauga / Moving to Vancouver / Ticket in Thunder Bay

Sorry I don't have an answer to your question. But, was wondering what field of work you're looking for? I travel the country and can tell you Saskatoon is one of the hottest employment city's in the country. Things in Alberta are heating up again but, stay south and prospect in Calgary. Too many go to Edmonton and realize afterwards the companies hiring are based down south. BC is OK but, it`s not much better than Ontario. Depends on the type of work you're looking for. Mostly oil and mining are the big employers but, money management, banking, sales, are doing well to support the growing population.

As for the ticket, I'd 411 a lawyer inTB or just pay the damn thing and put it behind you.

PS. I'm sure you've done the research for prospects and have your reasons for choosing BC. Just thought I'd post in case others have similar thoughts.

Cheers.

If it were me I might consider asking for a court date and disclosure and all that. Not show up for the court date. Wait to hear if a conviction is registered. If so, pay the fine. If not, forget the whole thing.

Sounds like the typical BS representation. Bringing the charge and points down does not help you at all (unless you already have a pile of demerit points) as insurance will have the same penalty (or lack thereof) for 1 to 49 km/h over. The two ways forward are a win (ie. the ticket completely disappears) or a loss (you get a minor ticket).

Personally I would go with Griffin's advice as you don't have anything to lose. Hell, try to find a sympathetic biker in TB to show up for your court date and hope the cop doesn't show. Someone has to know someone in TB that can show up.

right, hire an average joe could do this $525 job, pay him $50-100 and ask for reduce points, even an idiot could do "this"
win? this $525 guy could not guarantee you too

What's the best thing to do?

Got an Offense Notice in Nipigon (District of Thunder Bay) yesterday for 119 in a 90 zone. Officer said it is accompanied with 3 demerit points. Total payable is 138.75.

Here's the problem. I'm from Mississauga. I am enroute to BC in order to find work. It should take me another 4-5 days to get there.

If I find work in BC, I'll be settling there. Including license converstion and insurance with ICBC. I'm pretty sure the MoT of BC will have access to my driving history and it will transfer over. If I don't find work in BC, I'll be doing the same thing in AB.

What I'm not sure about is if I'll have the time and/or money to fly to Thunder Bay for the court date(s).

The reasonable thing to do would be to find a local traffic ticket lawyer and let him/her handle it. But, it's something I can't afford right now.

Considering what the insurance rates are like in out west, does it make sense to pursue this?

Sent from a motel in Thunder Bay from my iPod Touch.

The ticket will show up "out of province speeding" no points in BC. You have to bring drivers abstract with you to BC or wherever to show ICBC insurance.
I would get set up first before I paid it.
