Found Bike Cover Removed This Morning

So I woke this morning to find my bike cover removed. It had looked like someone had just walked up and threw up the cover to look at the bike. I am feeling a little paranoid atm and I hope this was not some kind of scouting effort. This does make me think about using prevention measures.

Does anyone have any suggestions? If it helps I ride a 250 Ninja.

Thanks in advance!

It was actually an attempted theft. They were like "Cover? Must be a nice bike, lets grab it" takes cover off. "Oh crap it's a 250 bro! You dragged me all the way out here for this?!?!" Leaves scene without bike.

In all seriousness, there's no way to know. Are there ties on the cover that would require a little extra effort to get it off?

There's only one course of action: buy a high powered assault rifle and camp out at the window. Be sure to shoot anyone who walks near the bike.

The cover has clips, but I never bothered to clip them up last night. I doubt it was the wind that removed the cover as I do not recall hearing any wind, and this morning it was a gentle breeze. Nothing strong enough to remove a cover at any rate. There are a lot of kids in the area, I have a feeling it was just removed by some curious teenager.

The high powered rifle suggestion is tempting though, if only to keep teenagers away.

Someone scoping it, would have usually put the cover back down after checking.. why rouse suspicion? That said, Keep an eye on it. Maybe they were checking for an alarm..etc.

I would guess it's the wind, I've had my cover completely blown off when it wasn't clipped at the bottom. If someone wanted to sneak a peek I would imagine they'd have the sense to quickly put the cover back down. Get a prox alarm underneath the cover if you're paranoid. Or like I've seen, wrap a chain around the cover and lock it haha

dude, put a stuffed skunk under it, i bet they will run right after lifting the cover. best anti theft ever!! STUFFED SKUNK!!

Yeah I plan on going home for lunch today and bringing the bike back. For the piece of mind, and that it's a shame to not be riding on such a nice day!

However I think I will use a stuffed skunk, chained down cover, AND the rifle to protect my bike. Seems reasonable to me!

Is there any way to mount a security camera near it? I have wireless ones that record right to a USB stick inside them. You can watch it from your smartphone or log into it with any computer (and download the 720p HD quality video from it). Works in complete darkness too (black and white at night with I.R. illumination).

Where'd you get that? I have no use for one, but it sounds cool so i want! :p

I actually kind of think that is very be plausible. It's covered so they take it off to see what's underneath, find that it's a 250 and don't bother taking it. Just not worth enough to for thieves to bother with them. Parts are too cheap to make the trouble of parting it out worthwhile and there is zero market for 250's as track bikes.

I rent where I am living atm. My landlord is friendly so I think I could convince her to put one up. That is a great suggestion though.

Likely the wind. Relax.

We sell them at my work (Skyview Electronics in Brooklin). My aunts 14 year old daughter was having fellow students over at lunch time and smoking weed and giving blow jobs so she wanted a camera that she could watch live from work, and that would text her pictures when it detected motion. She was selling her house (hence it smelling of weed was a bit of a problem) so didn't want to be drilling, running wires everywhere, etc. She set up a few of them, was a great deterrent once she texted a few of the motion capture images to her daughter ;)

I would say that the weed smell was the least of aunt's problems...

Hey Jamie,

What's the price for one of those cameras? Are they easy to install and is there any maintenance needed for them?

Best to call the store, I just set them up, I dun sell em. 1-800-903-8777.

The only issue with them is if you have a crappy/low power router, or it's located far away from the camera, there might not be enough signal to carry from the router to the camera. You can always run an ethernet cable from the router to the camera (up to 300ft) and the ethernet cable can power the camera as well (PoE).

They are waterproof so other than maybe cleaning the front glass once a month there isn't much you need to do to them.

If you're just getting one camera the setup isn't too bad. They come with software that will auto search for the camera on your network (you have to plug it in by a cable to initially set it up). If you're good with IP addresses and poorly translated chinese instructions then you should be OK! If not, once you get the camera connected I can connect in remotely to any computer on your network and set it all up for ya (no charge). Skyview also has technicians that can come to your house to install it (handy if you're getting more than one), fish wires through walls, they do a great job.
