I caged through yesterday and the colours were nice but not quite at peak. There were a few leaves on the road and it only takes one in the right spot to make things messy.

There are a few curves where there are no shoulders and it's instant ditch. Those can fill with leaves so one should not assume there's anything firm to support a bike.

We saw two heavy trucks on the "No Large Vehicle" part of the road and they seem to have made it. The eastbound one was a large cargo van (10 wheeler) and the westbound one a cement truck. Westbound signage is better placed than eastbound and eastbound also has to negotiate the sharpest part of the turn at the tracks.
 
I was in the area so I drove it yesterday. Meh. Stuck behind an old man in a Kia that topped out at 10 below speed limit (and much slower through the corners). Cops need to start ticketing people that can't maintain the speed limit on a clear dry day. Had a bit of space on the way out. I think it's the first time I've taken my car through. It was more composed than I expected going down the hairpin.

Colours aren't peak. Cones are setup everywhere to discourage stopping. Imo, that just means people will stop in the live lane as you can't fix dumb.

As for the no truck/bus signs. What municipal idiot thought that was a good location? They tell you to turn around immediately in a stretch of road with two lanes and minimal shoulders. Those signs should be at a major intersection (like McLaughlin?) with some of the pavement flags that a truck would have to drive over to enter the no-truck section.

I went through there once eastbound and saw an awestruck ditz going west at a slow walking pace with a dozen R bikes behind her rev bombing off the limiters. People need to get out of the city more often and see a tree in 3D.

The cones mean there's no place to allow a courtesy pass pull over but it appeases the tax paying wealthy.

The entire length is signed no passing too. Even places it is safe (and there are quite a few when the parade leader is going so slow) could get you tickets.

I got on at mclaughlin so I saw these ones. Wording is the same but they're already fooked. This is past Mclaren and there are no roads forward that accomodate a truck (or facilitate turning around). The second set of signs should say to stop driving and call a tow truck. Fines should increase by an order of magnitude once past the signs. Make the tow truck the cheapest way out.

That's reasonable for westbound but the eastbound warnings are before you get to Mississauga Road and Belfountain. That is misleading as a larger vehicle could be heading south on Mississauga Road or go through the village and north on Mississauga towards Alton. Tight but doable.

There is a smaller warning sign just past Scott Street but still it's before Mississauga Road to Alton. It's also in a cluster of other signs.

The big sign needs to be just before Mississauga Road north to Alton.
 
Tractor-trailer rigs shouldn't be using that segment of Mississauga Road, either. While they'll "fit" on the pavement and be able to make it through, they'll be across the centerline in a corner that is blind coming from the other direction (in either direction).

Northbound tractor-trailers that make it into Belfountain should turn left onto Bush St and then right on Shaws Creek, unless they have a local delivery in town.
 
I was close to getting clipped on 15sr this summer, i think the 401 was closed and the big trucks were sailing through at a speed that was dangerous.
 
I've been on the FOTC 2 or 3 times this season. On a weekday, always on the way somewhere else and just passing through, it's not a destination.

Locals are sick of the traffic and volume. Cones everywhere, all the time, to limit parking.

Never go there on a weekend, very frustrating.

I've seen large A Class bus type RV's grounded and stuck in the S turn on the way out to Highway 10. Quite a mess to sort out.

I haven't been down to The Forks in a couple of years. Like you, it is not a destination for me. I use it when I'm heading somewhere else and it's on the route, or at least a nicer option to the more direct route. At one time, say 15 to 20 years ago it was more enjoyable. It had a higher speed limit at that time and there were not as many politically connected land owners who now want to turn the entire roadway into their little community. Wait for it, 40kph is likely in the near future.

If you doubt that then have a look at Highway 124 through Shelburne. From where it starts just south of 89 as 2ND line / 30th Sideroad, all the way up to just below 124 and 5 Sideroad, it has been reduced to 40kph. There is no technical reason for this, it's just pure politics. I've recently found a by-pass that avoids the entire area, so no more stops at the Tim's or gas station at the 124/89 intersection for me.
