Forgot to drain oil before removing stator case

Just had the stator replaced on my Yamaha XV250H but have been having lingering issues, so today I removed the stator case to take a look at the work that had been done. Because I'm new to riding and dumb, I didn't drain the oil first. As soon as I popped the case open the smallest amount, oil started leaking out everywhere - I'd say about a 1/2-1 quart.

I want to reattached the stator case now and replace the oil, but I'm very scared that there is something I could do that would destroy the brand new stator or cause damage to the bike. Would be interested in any advice anyone might have since I'm feeling like I should probably just get it towed to a mechanic to be on the safe side.

If it's not leaking you're fine.

Just like TK4 says. Button it back up, top up lost oil and it's time to ride.

Now I'm curious, if you've admitted that you're new to bikes and don't know how to fix them, why did you open the stator case?

In any case (pun intended) just make sure you didn't damage the gasket and pin it back together. Top up oil and you're good to go.
