I recently purchased a 1998 zx9r and I have a few questions if I could. I have new tires to be installed and a few people have told me to make sure they are "scrubbed in" prior to any intense riding. I have not a clue how to go about doing that. Also in the possibility that the bike breaks down what towing service do you use? CAA or Canadian Tire etc. I also wanted to add that I have found this forum indispensable in my decisions when it came to searching out the bike that suits me ergonomically and the style I craved since a young lad. So "cheers" to all of the contributors who take the time to assist us new riders in the safe way to enjoy this sport. I thank you.

Don't think too much into tires. Just take it easy initially - then you'll be fine.

Use CAA, moto limo. Who know how to tow bikes are part of CAA.

Somewhere on this forum it's posted that Moto Limo is no longer affiliated with CAA. I called him last year for a quote and it was mind-blowingly expensive.

I use CAA Plus, ('Plus' is required for motorcycle service), and when I needed them last year they sent a flatbed. Just make sure they know they're coming for a motorcycle.

(p.s. My girlfriend ran out of gas coming home on the Allen last winter. They came in short order and gave her the gas she needed, didn't cost her anything. Even the gas was covered in the cost of the service. Totally worth having.)

MotoLimo is no longer under contract with CAA, but the good thing is CAA has Motorcycle trailers now, insist on using them, they are not very good at securing a motorcycle on a flat bed, been there done that. MotoLimo is still great, but as above stated they are expensive.

I will second this. CAA comes with a flatbed for motorcycles. I too have the Plus coverage.
Cheers.

I wouldn't try and get your knee down on the very first turn with new tires. Having said that, take it relatively easy initially and you should be fine.

My first bike was a 2000 ZX9-R. Comfortable and fast :) Congratulations

CAA plus. Don't worry about scrubbing the tires in on the street. They will just be a touch slick for the first few dozen km's......but given the state of our roads I doubt you will notice, more likely gravel or sand you will be sliding on. At the track it one hot lap to scrub new tires in. all scrubbing in refers to is removing any of the mold release compound that still might be on the tires.
