So ive put about 500k or so on my bike and ive already crashed my bike.


I was going around a corner in a small town, realized that I was running wider than expected , applied the brakes, but it didn't help. I Went out wide and the bike slid into the curb, I kinda of just hopped off (not 100 percent sure how it happened but i ended up just standing on the curb) and the bike was halfway on the curb on its side. I Didnt understand what happened, so went to check out the road. The entire corner was incredibly slick. Theres a river that runs parallel to it, and it was windy, once i took my helmet off i realized there was mist coming off the river. The road had become damp from the mist (like when it just starts raining), but the road didnt look any visibly different. Anyways, I had slowed down a decent amount, so theres no major damage, But ive posted some pictures.

Fairings



Fairing + Brake Pedal (Hard to tell but theres a pretty good gouge out of the brake pedal)

Signal (Also the case has come off of it...glue?)




Any Suggestions on what to do/ how to handle any of these scrapes and whatnot? Especially the fairings, its much more obvious than the picture makes it look

Nothing. There's a very good chance you'll collect a couple more scratches. Keep riding and have fun.
 
glad your ok and bike looks not too bad...


for future riding......

if your going wide put more lean on the bike and look where you want to go.. its better to lean more than to brake.. also practice your trail braking... try and stay away from that front brake while cornering .. just my 0.02$

I am glad that you are O.K and weren't injured. It looks like you have a Ninja 250r. Even though the scratches may bother you you might want to fix only some of the cheaper stuff (e.g bar ends, levers, etc). The main thing here is that you walked away and hopefully learned a lesson or two on what you did wrong. When/if you decide to upgrade you can write in your Kijiji ad. "dropped by previous owner". Just kidding, enjoy the bike and ride safe.

Someone half-talented with touch up paint + polishing will be able to significantly reduce the scratches.

Looking back, if you could relive this scenario (running wide) would you have still applied the brakes?
 
Also, pick up the DVD, "Twist of the Wrist 2" and buy the book "Proficient Motorcycling" by David Hough.

Well I tried leaning more, but I just felt like i was sliding. In hindsight though I think I should have been gentler on the brakes, and tried to lean as much as possible - just not sure I had the confidence to lean that far over. Oh well, live and learn i guess.

It sucks to drop your bike, but it's a great lesson to learn. So glad you were able to walk away from it!

Also, your pipe is twisted. The springs shouldn't be twisted like that.

Looks more like they were just installed wrong to begin with.

Sugestions? Stop blaming anything but yourself. It is possible to hold a corner in the damp if you know what you're doing.

Go to a giant parking lot and take some pylons along.

Now start experimenting while cornering, slow, medium, fast etc...

Now do the above while braking, coasting and accelerating.

Start moving your body position around and hanging off the bike while doing the same.

Report back what you find :D

Make sure to warm tires first
 
As suggested by someone else, find a parking lot, or cul-de sac and practice turning. Start slow and steady, then try going a bit faster and lean more, you will start to learn how the bike reacts and your fear or leaning will start to disappear. Just remember, make sure pavement is clean, and be very gradual, don't make big adjustments at once.
