Black Ninja 250 in Mississauga W/Pic

Just joined this forum as I've read a lot of great posts from various members...and thought I would join the community.

I just got my M1 license a few weeks ago, and I'm planning on taking the safety course in 2 weeks (September 7/8).

I've been looking around and decided I would settle on a ninja 250 as my starter bike.
I'm in the processes of buying my gear, and hope to have all my gear before I start the course...so I can buy a bike the next day, and start riding.

List of items (I'm buying everything new...prefer it that way):

- Shoes: Bought
- Jacket: going to see a jacket tonight (settled on textile)
- Gloves: have not really looked for them.
- Helmet: Struggling to find a good deal on a nice looking all black glossy one for under the $150 mark.

I'm in Mississauga - Square One area.

September 3, 2013 Update:
Just picked her up today! no plates yet...will have to wait until tomorrow!!

Congrats and All the best for your course.

I am in the same boat as you. I just got my M2 but still under the 60 days waiting period. Already got the shoes but I am probably going to wait for some deals around boxing day (if there are any) to buy the rest of the gear.

Happy Riding !!!

congrats to both of you riders. remember look in deriction of travel n smile. have fun n b safe!!!

Thanks guys.
I wanted to get all my gear now...so I can at least ride around my neighborhood and get comfortable with riding.
I know the season is almost over, wanted the last few months to be practice for me.
Figured with this weird weather we`re having...I should still be able to ride in September/October.

Gloves - buy full gauntlet, shorties leave a vulnerable area of your wrist exposed
Helmet - should be easy to find what you are looking for, check out hjc, gmax or similar. They will be plastic shell as opposed to fibreglass (imho plastic is better for most people), but you can get a snell rated helmet for less than $200. All helmets must pass the same tests, the more expensive ones are lighter, quieter and look better, but don't necessarily protect you any better. Personally, I would avoid dark helmets unless you like pretending you are a hood ornament. While you are out and about, see what bikes are immediately visible in traffic, the riders are normally wearing hi-vis helmets/vests.

Revzilla is having a nice clearout sale of their Teknic stuff, some really nice textile/mesh jackets up on there, 50% off.

congrats on the Ninja 250. It will serve as an excellent first bike! Welcome to the forums!!!

Welcome to the forum. My only advice is a helmet is the only thing between your skull and the road. Go to a couple of shops and try them all on. Get what's comfortable even if it's more than what you planned on spending. :hello2:

Thanks for the tip guys.

I checked out the Icon Alliance helmets - with tinted visor - ordered one for $140+ tax and got a simple pair of icon gloves as well.
I did end up getting a matte black helmet.

I did check out the Teknic stuff from Revzilla - thanks for the tip bboySushi...but I noticed that their jackets are even length at the bottom.
I'm leaning towards the Icon Contra jacket - goes a little lower on the back.
don't want my *** hanging out when I'm riding.

I have both the Icon Contra jacket and a Teknic Chicane jacket. The Contra is exceptionally comfortable in moderately cool to hot weather. The Teknic is fantastic down to zero deg C when I wear a sweater under it. For me the Contra fits better and has superior armor compared to the Teknic.

I settled on the Icon Contra.
Done and Done. Glad I got all my gear. Ran me $500 all in for everything brand new.
No idea if that was expensive, but I got the following items:

Hemlet: Icon Alliance Matte Black with tinted visor
Jacket: Icon Contra
Gloves: Icon 29er gloves
Shoes: Bought motorcycle shoes from some place in north york a while back. (go above my ankles) - all black - dont remember the brand.

Welcome!

Ah, I almost took it there, Learning Curves on the beaches was just a bit more convenient to get to for me.

I'm in Mississauga - the north campus is about 10 minutes away from me. Very helpful for 8:30 am Saturday/Sunday morning courses...vs a 30-40 minute commute.

congratz on the bike! it looks clean =), enjoy the rest of the riding season, remember to get used to the bike on small street first before you take it out to the big street.

Congrats on the bike! Ride safe.
