Social media's role in the riots
The Daily Telegraph says police were prepared for trouble in Birmingham after a campaign on Facebook, BlackBerry Messenger and Twitter warned of violence and encouraged others to get involved. Rumours spread that trouble would start at 18:00 BST with an out-of-town leisure complex, believed to be Star City, a possible target. West Midlands police posted a message on Twitter at around 17:00 BST yesterday in response to rumours of planned disorder.

Finally a good use of media to curb the violence and unruly punks. They need to go after the manufacturers of the devices and the hosting web sites to lay charges for conspiracy to assist in committing crimes against the public and Government property. They can also now use the Facebook scan application to ID people that participated in the violence, theft and arson with police video. Next they can nail car manufacturers for cars that were operated by impaired drivers. Camera manufacturers for pictures taken by pedophiles and child porn. This will help clean up the filth in our society. HURRAH a solution has emerged. Social media has a purpose!
