Anyone here know someone that does Fiberglass Tank sealing?

I have a Tracy body on an old CB, and I need to re-coat the inside (damn ethanol laced fuel)

I see lots of talk online for KBS coatings, Red-Kote... but honestly, I would rather just pay for someone that is familiar with the products and process to do it for me... I hate that messy stuff!

Anyone?

Send it to the guys at Airtech. They have the know-how.

West GTA Preferred :)

It is an entire bodykit, single piece from Tank to Tail

It's also painted and finished.

Like so: (but not this one)

Good idea. I've got the Caswell kit sitting on the shelf for a year, rather have somebody with experience do it. I screw everything up the first time and, like you said, it's messy. Will be watching this thread.

To apply the Caswell kit is not as difficult as people make it out to be. It takes patience, good prep and following the instructions and you will be fine. I did an old and rusty FZR250RR tank a couple of years ago and still no sign of rust coming back.

It may be worth a phone call to Barton Radiator Works in Hamilton. They have done a few steel tanks for me, but I'm not sure if they can do glass????

If it's of any help, I sealed a 76 Bultaco Pursang tank with Caswell Tank Sealer two years ago and its held up really well so far. The only thing I would say though is that the tank had not had any gas in it since the 80's so I assume it was never filled with gas that had any ethanol content.

It's a fiberglass tank so the process may be different than your steel tank. I'm the type that only gets good at stuff over time and sometimes never. This is something I'd want to trust to an expert.

Inreb,

Good luck with the coating. The Tracy was a cool find and will look great on the old SOHC. Enquiring minds wonder where you managed to score it and how much they go for - even if it's none of our d@mn bussiness.

It makes me want to get going on the motor of my 750 so I can mount my 3/4 Rickman.

Thanks for heads up. Email sent for quote.

Pat Cowan is a fibreglass expert. He's in Georgetown but is often in the GTA. Nice Tracy kit, they're becoming quite collectible even if they're not to all tastes.

Discussing with Pat. He does this type of work. Tentatively scheduled for next week. This will be interesting, another learning experience.

Contacted Pat as well. He seems to use the Caswell stuff. My tank is already lined with "some product" hoping that it not a problem...

This is why I don't want to ship it all over the place :)

And before you ask... I never built it, I learned to take the easy way early in life, "nice job, now here is the money" :D

Does any still acid copper plating their gas tanks or is that too expensive / inefficient?
