Feedback on handlebar mounted speakers

Hello folks,

I'm considering buying a handlebar mounted speaker system that would go behind my windshield...thing is, I'm reading mixed product reviews online (Pyle, Shark, etc.) about sound quality, especially at highway speeds.

Heck, even the Kuryakin Sound of Chrome System (~$400) appears to be suspect.

But, I'd like to get some direct feedback from riders who actually have handlebar speakers, and if I could get any recommendations or buying advice.

Thanks!

I know nothing about handlebar mounted systems, but in general you can't get much worse sounding than pyle. I don't know how much room you have to work with, but I would recommend buying marine speakers and building/buying fibreglass enclosures for them. How do you power these speakers? Were the ones you were looking at self powered? On most bikes finding a place for the amp/head unit would be a big challenge.

Personally, I would just use headphones or speakers in your helmet, so much easier and cheaper.

Why?

Any time someone passes me with speakers on their bike everyone around me starts making fun of them. Just use headphones or helmet speakers.

Totally enjoying music through my Scala G9 now...so much easier than putting earphones under the helmet and I can still hear the music with earplugs in to take the worst of the roadnoise and windrush away.

I've yet to hear a decent aftermarket sound system on a bike, especially above 80kph, unless its a full batwing fairing.
My buddy had a $50k HD FL CVO which he put 8 speakers and a big amp. THAT sounded good; I could follow him at 120 on the highway and hear it! But why do you want to subject everyone around you to your music?

I have a Scala Rider with FM radio and an unput for an ipod or whatever. The helmet mouted speakers are pretty good once you position them correctly.
