Hey guys,

I'll be completely honest...I'm looking to apply and I've already sent out/dropped off resumes at some of the places that I've researched & KNOW would be a good place to work for. But I haven't been to every bar in the city & a lot of work actually goes into narrowing down my options.

My most important criteria is high volume: they have to be fairly busy from sunday-thursday and at capacity on friday & saturday. I prefer a non-student crowd, but I'm willing to make exceptions if the place is high-volume enough.

BUT I'm also always trying out different places, so even if I don't apply there, I'll most likely check it out at some point in time. I'm not asking because I'm lazy; I'm asking because it's actually really hard to find a well-managed venue to stay at for a couple of years (a lot of decent places have a limited run or are eventually ruined by crappy management).

I also give half my night's tips for a suggestion and all of it for a hook up/interview...so there's something in it for you. I'm pretty good at what I do... so you won't be disappointed if the venue's as good as it should be.

Also, I ate a fortune cookie the other night and it said "a new job awaits you":confused2:. Btw, if you're looking for a certain vibe or atmosphere, I can do my best to suggest a place for you to check out.

Maybe I missed it in a post... what are you a bar-tender? DJ? What?

I think there is a Mr. Sub on markham and passmore that has a LLBO you could work there!

Most bars if not Irish they suck. I don't know why but most bar owners in Toronto don't know how to have a fun mood/tone in their restaurants.

Bartender.

Haha Link666...I didn't know Mr. Sub could get licensed!

Yeah, I've been on the fence about the tilted kilt. I've helped open up 2 pubs downtown already and I said never again. It's always rough for about 6 months even if it's a prime location. They also end up hiring a lot of crappy staff & managers just to meet the opening deadline & there's CRAZY turnover. So you end up being the only one who knows what to do since everyone keeps getting fired & replaced. The strategy is to over-hire and then keep the best, so a lot of people do some of the shadiest things just to make the cut (one place I worked at started off with 80 staff and ended up keeping 20 of us).

I swear to god I'd be so set if I had tits -_-

Talk to me in a year, I will give you a job

What demographic/age group are the most generous tippers? That's where I'd go.

I sort of think that if you are not homophobic that working at a gay bar in Liberty village or something would be prosperous for a good looking male bartender. A lot of gay men are successful and with no kids and lots of dispensable income, you'd think they'd tip well right?

What about finding a bar where the cougars go? Maybe one of those spots that do retro nights.

I've thought about this, too. The after-hours/deep house crowd have been the best (in my experience). I'm waiting on a call back from The Guvernment, but realistically, that's a shot in the dark (pun intended lol).

I'd have no problems working at liberty village or church/wellesly. & yeah, gay men tip really well. They have some of the weirdest requests, though. My buddy's friend used to work at a bar on church & this guy gave him $300 to take off his underwear & sniff it.

I've never really appealed to cougars (unless they're black or asian), so it's probably not my lane. As a sidenote: watching cougars pick up is one of the most entertaining things I've ever seen in my life.

What's a good cougar bar?

Haha I guarantee you that it's not just gay guys that have strange requests. It's just that gay men can get away with it in a gay bar, whereas a straight man trying the same thing to a female bartender would have the cops called on him ;)

But yeah, if you're good looking and don't mind being hit on by guys, working in a gay bar can be very lucrative.

WTF? Since when was there a gay bar in Liberty Village????

Very good point... There are some really creepy girls, too...but they wouldn't offer me $300 to sniff my underwear. Either way, my story's anecdotal. But I've heard that gay bars tend to hire straight guys 'cause we're less likely to give out free shots. No idea if that's actually the case...but for my sake, I hope it's true. I've also heard that the hottest girls go to gay clubs 'cause they can dance without getting hit on every 5 seconds.

I know you're in San Jose, but any recommendations outside of the church/wellesly general area? I actually didn't even know that liberty village was known to be a gay-centric area.

What's a good cougar bar?
Crocodile rock is the legendary cougar bar of Toronto. But if you want a Yummy Mummy, Yonge & eglinton's also dubbed "Yonge & Eligible" for a reason.

Edit: Maybe Liberty Village, too? Although it might just be a coincidence 'cause I'm speaking from personal experience

I never spent a whole lot of time in bars when I was still living in Toronto, so I don't have a whole lot in the way of recommendations. I did go to the Duke of York a fair bit when I was going to school. It's a little bit divey, but it was always busy, even during the week (usually students and faculty, due to its proximity to the downtown U of T campus). It's easy to get to, as it's right near St. George station. I'm not sure how much things have changed, though, as it's been a good number of years since I've been.
