Faulty Yamaha Tenere 700: Customers demand refund

Yamaha Ténéré 700 owners across the globe are demanding refunds for receiving what they claim to be ‘faulty motorcycles.’

“All we know is that we ordered the Ténéré that makes wheelies, jumps, and climbing vertical-f***ing walls look easy like the bike Pol Tarrés received… we believe our bikes don’t have ATS (Automatic Talent System) installed,” said the spokesperson for a local Ténérés Without Automatic Talent Systems (T.W.A.T.S.) group.

This defect appears to be hitting the middle-aged male demographic particularly hard with almost none of them able to do basic off-road maneuvers, let alone balance-point wheelies.

“There’s no reason I shouldn’t be able to get it up, especially when on the blue stuff.” said one middle-aged T.W.A.T.S. member. “There’s clearly something wrong with the product and not me.”

As of now, it appears Yamaha will not be refunding any of the owners for this reason – citing they cover powertrains, not lack of training.

“Well, I guess we’ll have to flood the used market with Ténéré’s $5,000 over MSRP. Considering all the aftermarket parts and stickers we’ve put into our bikes, and all those dealership fees and taxes… don’t forget taxes. $15,000 for a used bike that’s worth $10,000 new is a deal too good to pass up. Yamaha will never sell another new bike again! MUAHHAHAAHAHAHAH,” said an official T.W.A.T.S. statement.

checking kijiji for some deals!

I haven't ridden one yet, but they're everywhere on the trails.

Lots of 790/890Rs and T700s, so obviously those are the true middle-weight off-road bikes that people are using as intended, IRL. Rest are fat-asphalt pretenders.

You get the odd GS out there, but they're either dirt gods, or more than likely, they quickly do a U-turn and go back to the FSRs. That's me, BTW. I'm totally describing myself there...

So how does this stuff work?
Normally, if I was going to ride on single track I would want a small easy to lift bike,
that doesn't get wrecked too easily by bouncing the handlebars on trees.
Is there something in the smaller size range that can carry lots of weight and travel around the world?

I've had people who couldn't see why I bought a GT, if I don't like dirt.

BMW G 310 GS could fit the bill. Wouldn't be perfect. Neighbour picked one up in the spring. She likes it, and she's moving to it from her previous 850GS Adv + older R600

Depends on what you call lots of weight. Plenty of people have ridden long distances on small bikes. We did all of SE Asia on CRF250Ls. Wasn't enjoyable, but it accomplished the task. Other bikes in the 350 lb-ish class that could do the same:

G 310 GS
390 Adventure
CRF 300L
WR250R
KLX 300
Versys 300
DR650

This winter, we spent a month in Mexico on EXC 500s/FE501s. Probably the best experience ever as far as power-to-weight and smile factor in the dirt. For us, they're as close to the unicorn bike as we could get for a dirt-competent travel machine.

Just had to do an oil change every couple of days, that's all... ;)
