Extended Storage question

Need to storage a bike for a indefinite period of time...might be 12-24 months.....the obious things would be done...oil changed etc etc.

(yes throttle bodies will be drained as well, cylinders will be purged and fogging oil will be used)

Tank needs to be drained of gas.....whats the best way to preserve tanks internals? Fogging oil as well?

Fog through the gas cap and pull the pump out and fog through the fuel pump hole as well. Then seal it up and leave it.

Lube all the pivot points and heavily lube the chain.

+ block exhaust and intake ducts to prevent critter infiltration and bump up the tire pressures to prevent flat spotting.

I was going to pull the pump and drain and let the pump dry...going to fog the pump too (very lightly)..everything should be in stainless in there anyhow...

But good idea...might as well fog throught the fuel pump hole....its pretty big and I can get to the top of the tank.....maybe I will fog the overflow hose as well.

thanks!

I don't think critters would get in...but good idea, would not hurt...simple plastic cap would do...

Tires would be off the ground....any more ideas / suggestions?!

If you can use a dehumidifier in the area I would. You would be surprised at the difference it makes.

That's about all you need to do bud. Throw a cover on it to kept dust away and you should be good to go.

I normally put a rag in my exhaust in the winter.

Wash bike, polish, amour all? Put on stand?

Run the engine until all gas is used?

I think that's a good idea, with non-ethanol gas used just prior to this (shell 91, ultramar 91). If he ran it until the engine stopped due to fuel starvation there might still be fuel in some of the injectors/fuel rail/lines?

I'd be most worried about the fuel injectors, especially if ethanol fuel was last used in them.

Gas will be drained ..motor And fuel rail will be purged.

I've stored a bike with 87 octane...after 2 years and no fuel stabilizer she started right up....
