Exhaust sound modulation

Would you buy this?

Now there is a "position adjustable" flapper available. It is a solenoid driven servo-motor that responds to one of three selectable flapper positions triggered by the Rider's manual selection via button press at the handlebar.
I think that device is targeted more at the exhaust-sound enthusiast rather than at a performance seeker.

EXUP by any other name...?

I forgot for a moment how many bikes come already equipped with this these days

I think most modern bikes have this flapper already in the exhaust pipe.
All this gadget does is to give you the ability to control the position of the flapper vs. the ecu doing it.
Would I buy it?
Nada, no.
(I have the stock exhaust on my bike and am happy with it )

Guess it will be useful if you have straight pipes and notice that there is a "sound check" ahead.

I remember coming across it when checking out the Triumph Bobber..
So yes, if I do get around to purchasing a bobber, 10/10 I would get this setup...easier on the neighbors during early morning cold starts and when riding by cops/by law officers lol.

Yup. I looked into something like this for my Hyperstrada. Even my stock exhaust was too loud on early morning cold starts, so I would push the bike to the end of the street before firing it up. I like the idea of this, but not with just closed, half open, and fully open - prefer a knob to fine tune it.

I don't thinks so. EXUP changed the length of the head pipes.
It looks like this only opens and closes a valve in the muffler. There's not a lot of info on that site except for sound files... so I bet it only changes the resonance of the muffler, and does nothing performance wise other than confuse the ECU.
EXUP actually does somethin....

I know BMW 1200s and 1250s have a servo driven exhaust flapper valve but it's not controlled by the rider. There are issues with the flapper seizing up although mostly in the fully open position due to the fact there's a spring return. On the 1200s the flapper valve is accessible for repair or removal but on the 1250s its built into the exhaust header in a manner that the header has to be replaced at significant cost. Many are just disconnected rather than repaired.

Toronto is increasing enforcement on aholes making noise. They are asking province to allow demerit points for noise. Don't be an ahole. Yes, some vehicles come with a factory valve to open exhaust. You might have a chance to beat a ticket in one of those. The aftermarket adjustable exhaust may get you out of a ticket or two but once they catch on, I wouldn't be surprised if they try and do something like pull your plates until a mechanic signs off. They are getting really tired of "look at me" behaviour.
