Exhaust questions

Hey everyone, so lately I've been looking at upgrading my exhaust on the r6 from stock. I've been contemplating whether to just get a slip-on and keep the CAT, or keep the stock headers and get a mid pipe and slip-on or just go all out and get a full exhaust system.

Usually people say money isn't an issue, but I would like to keep the costs below $1000.

If anyone has any suggestions that would be great. Thanks!

All personal preference. You just said money is an issue so I believe you have answered your own question. Slip-on for looks and sound.

what are you trying to achieve?

a leo vince slip on and 05 headers will run you about $1000 if i remember correctly.

It's a cheapo full system you get pretty much the same power, same sound just slightly heavier cus the headers arn't ti, had it on my old r6 and was quite happy with it.

Midpipe and slip on also works but i think you have to get someone to chop your cat and weld on the mid pipe?

a proper full system will be well out of your pricerange and a slip on with cat still on is a huge waste of money if you ask me

In all honesty I just want a little change from the stock. I've had the bike with the stock exhaust for 4 years and I think it's just time.

I do want a better sound and I know leaving the CAT with a slip on won't make much of a difference, so a mid pipe with slip on would be my best bet for that.

Going with a full exhaust would be the best for sound AND performance but I'm just not comfortable forking out $1000+ for the upgrade.

I guess what I should have asked is whether a slip on + mid pipe would give me equal performance and sound than a full exhaust. Would the stock headers hold it back a bit?

I am also going to have to add a PCV so that's another thing I have to look into

I've got a full setup on my Fazer 800 (Akrapovic catless headers plus a Yoshi R77 slip-on with the baffle removed) and love it. It's actually not obnoxiously loud but the sound quality is top notch.

Thing is, if I knew then what I know now I'd probably not have gone for the headers and left that stock, going only with the R77, saving hundreds. My bike's rated at only 105HP stock so it's not moving a ton of air and probably didn't benefit much from the headers anyway. If I went to R1 cams and/or ported the head a bit to flow more I might see more benefit power-wise with the Akras.

The Akras look nicer than stock and give the net system the exact sound I want but in terms of power, stock would have been fine. See if you can get a slip-on that works with both stock and aftermarket headers; try the slip-on first and you always have the option to do the headers later.

That's what ideas wondering. If it's worth the extra few hundred dollars to get aftermarket headers. I'm leaning towards the slip on and mid pipe and see how that goes. Now I'm looking at which ones to get. So far I've been researching the M4 mid pipe with a GYTR slip on. Anybody have experienced with these?

You'll never get rid of that 4 cylinder sound and with an aftermarket system you'll just amplify it. Buy a proper motorbike.

Noted. Thanks

Now selling a 2009 R6. Reason for selling...need to buy a proper motorbike

No need to make rash decisions based on internet advice. How about a compromise? Trade it for a sewing machine?

I've retired from the sewing game. Plus then I would need advice on what slip on would work best with said sewing machine

lol

It sounds like it is just aesthetics, so save yourself some money and just add a Slip on, no need to buy a power commander as the power loss will be very slight in most cases.

Make sure you understand that performance is out of the question with anything but a full exhaust and a Fuel Management system so if you just looking for looks and don't care about performance, slip on seems to be your answer

seriously, if your gonna do a slip on may as well get the 05 headers, look it up its like $300 extra and will actually do something which the slip on will not.

The 09 r6 was one of the only jap bikes with a good looking slip on, if you dont care about sound or performance id say just leave it.

slapping a slip on behind a Cat just seems so pointless to me.

Yeah. That's exactly why I'm leaning towards getting a slip on + mid pipe. Seems to be my best bet.
