Evinrude outboards are no more

Production of outboards has stopped and will not restart. They are focussing on making boats now.

BRP strikes again. First they bought Johnson/Evinrude and immediately killed Johnson. Now Evinrude is gone too.
That leaves Mercury, Yamaha and Suzuki as the major players in big water outboards.
I wouldn't bet against a Chinese company jumping in to fill the void.

Honda still makes a decent outboard no? ones we had were heavy.
There are a chinese makers already, Parsun is a huge builder but no north American distribution.

Yanmar builds a deisel outboard, when I get tired of sailboats I'm buying a trawler, pulling the inboard and adding a floatation rear deck and twin diesel outboards. Cut maintenence costs in 1/2. Engine trouble? lift it off and into the shop it goes, and open up Huge storage where the monster inboard used to live.
