Is it my imagination or is workforce after workforce striking recently? Seems like each week we get a new company / union / group striking for something (money).

Just read that there's a teacher strike coming? Didn't they just strike recently?

I'm happy for people standing up for their rights, as if they strike and improve their conditions, things CAN improve overall for everyone.

Unless I'm missing something, guess the post-COVID inflation is cranking everyone to strike for more wages.

Wonder when OPS goes on strike as I may be able to join that (even though I'm not union).
 
Kinda domino effect. My buddie's union in the feds wasn't planning to strike but when the others did, so did they and got a similar pay increase. 🤷‍♂️

Honestly I've always felt Canada and Canadian need some sort of civil revolution to get the Gov activities in order. This whole thing you got a vote and the jokers doesn't do what they said, and back room deals, and handouts happen, over and over again and nothing changes but piled on new taxes and still getting next to nothing for it, or they keep saying the "system" is broken, the same system they all keep abusing.. ya that one...

As for striking... contracts vary in length and many are coming due now (or are pass due). Union members feel inflation like everyone else, some other unions have recently received some higher percentage increases so others are saying where is my candy? Add in some private sector stuff like higher than normal profits ($s not necessarily margins), again where is my candy?

Should take a lesson from the French. Those mofos know how to protest and they go all out over anything they don't like.

RCMP to review green belt deals. OPP can't be trusted due to arm's length issues etc.

A general strike sounds like a good idea but here's the problem. The ones that should be out there can't take the time off because they're too dependent on every penny of their paycheck. The special interest bums have all the time in the world to picket and protest.

Media fans the flames because if the government ever did anything to solve the problems media has nothing for startling headlines. Nobody wants to read about the winner of the local gladiola contest.

Why can't they time these contracts to end in June?

Because they need to picket during their vacations.

And frankly no one would care during the summer. This ensures they have people’s attention.
 
Those who are not striking are demanding more $. Lots of movement in the work force. Our payroll has gone way up.

I DESPISE the union that we’re in.
I don’t have full time hours as that takes a stupid amount of seniority to achieve. I get paid $5-7 less per hour than full timers, yet have to pay the same amount of union dues, as “we get the same benefits.”

As a permanent part-timer, we have to put in for extra time covering routes that aren’t fully staffed before full timers do. Yet, they get to choose which part of the routes they wish to do first. So, it takes us the full 1.75 hours to deliver a junk mail section at regular wage. They get paid 1.75 hours at $45+ per hour, yet it takes only .75 hours to complete (full timers will *NEVER* do a junk mail section… .They get paid $85 for 45 minutes. We get paid $37 for 1.75 hours.

The Canada Post / Union thing is broken and needs major reform, but that will never happen.

My route just got cut by 7.5 hours a week. I’m being forced to transfer to another depot so I can pay my bills. I love the people I work with. It’s a great place for the people. I’ve worked in other depots that are garbage for the interpersonal relations that border on toxic. I hate the fact that I’m being forced out…

ANd yet, there’s a casual worker who’s on disability who is fully capable of working more hours, but simply refuses to because it will cut into her free govt benefits. She’s useless at the job. She covered my route for 1 day - I had someone ask me if I was drunk or hungover the next day.. mail for 3 addresses in their slot. And the union protects her each and every step of the way.

Sigh.
