Does anyone know of anywhere local to pick up evaporative cooling vests?

Going on a trip. Gonna be hot.

I got mine from Kahuna ... but I had to order it in, they dont' stock it but either PartsCan or MotoVan does in the book

Having said that, are you going to a moist climate? or a dry hot climate?

Either way (dry or moist) it doesn't affect the vest that much if you're on the highway. Even in our high humidity heat, I find the vest to work just fine. Just make sure air is moving through it.

Mesh jacket, plus soaked T-shirt?

Stop for gas, soak T-shirt again, repeat as needed...

A soaked t-shirt will also trap heat as it won't allow your skin to sweat and evaporate. The vest has a lining on the inside that stays dry; you might feel a little clammy but you won't feel wet. With the vest, all you feel is vest cooling you while your own sweat (you will always sweat regardless the temp) evaporates as well. It's a thing of beauty on days like these.

My question to the op was not about it's effectiveness in humidity. But about where he is going and the amount of times to recharge it.

In dry desert weather I found that recharging ( re soaking ) the vest every 2-3 hrs is required. In high humidity eg. Florida, you can do it once a day. Wearing it with no water in the desert to re soak u found makes you even hotter. If you want to ride longer between stops in the desert carry water with you in the tank bag and you can recharge it for an extra 30-40 minutes with a 1/2 liter bottle of water.

I'm headed through the Plains (dry and/or humid) to Colorado (won't need it so badly there) and to Utah (dry) and Arizona (dry).

And I've been there, done that with the T-shirt, certainly it does in a pinch, but if someone's built a better mousetrap I'm willing to try it.

What about trying the Venom gear Aliki created? Everyone I know that has it says it keeps them cooler, plus it's designed to alleviate rider fatigue.

Linky?

Actually, I've already messaged her regarding gear I want to pick up today (I'd heard enough from others, I want some as well) so when I hear back, I'll pm you info. or, if you want, pm me a contact number and I'll pass it along to her for you.

Best thing ever, especially when you wet it. Saw Aliki tonight and she said she started carrying a spray bottle with her. The best part is your gear not sticking to you. An other guy tonight said he couldn't feel his leathers when he had her gear under it.

Can't even compare the material to under armor, it's in a whole other league.

Here is the link to her info...http://www.vnmsport.com/

But true (good) evaporative cooling vests have dry surfaces against the skin. You can wet underarmour too if need be. There's a wet to the touch evaporative vest you can get for $40 but it's just a gel filled vest. Seems the dry to the touch ones are $100 upwards and more like $170.
